Wranglers and Carhartts are what I buy now. I wear out other brands, including Levis, but not Wranglers and Carhartts.

Never had Carhartts, have had Wrangler, and they wear out fast in my job, and are uncomfortable. I gave them an honest try. Levi's is where it's at.

Anyway, I'm kinda pumped for the new GI Joe. Not that the first one was great, but it was a good time-killer....

You're welcome, America.

(PS: I think we've always thought that the world needed a Falling Down remake starring a heavily bearded Danny Trejo)

Awesome.

I want the sequel to be Liam vs Trejo. I think my mind would asplode at that point.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Awesome. Comparing this one to the Swedish one, a couple of major plot points are differently arrived at, meaning the end result of the point is the same, it's how it got to that result is different. However, there's only one that I was disappointed in.* The rest didn't really matter. And I will say Fincher's statement of earning the R is very, very true. The one scene that was beyond disturbing in the Swedish one is a bit more graphic in this one. I'm really surprised the MPAA let him get away with it, given some of the rules they have (as mentioned in "This Film Has Not Yet Been Rated").

And yes, as bbdl cited earlier, Rooney owns her role, and this movie.

*(whited out, out of courtesy for those who haven't seen it):

Mikael's daughter clues him in to the numbers as Bible passages, not Lisbeth. It adds to Lisbeth's IQ factor, and also is how Mikael finds out that someone is hacking his computer, although he doesn't know who, at that point.
I just got home from seeing the movie - excellent! Fincher did a great job with it, and Trent Reznor did an equally great job with the musical choices and when to play the right ominous tones. It was fitting to have someone like that do the music, given the characters involved.

The ending for Harriet Vanger was an interesting choice, well played. That's all I'll say on that part.

BPH and I saw it today (he for the first time, although he saw the Swedish one and read the book, and me for the second time). I picked up a few nuances that I missed before, including one that I feel incredibly retarded about missing it the first time around. To be fair, BPH missed it too, until I brought it up:

Lisbeth "greets" (says "hey hey") only two people in the entire movie: her first guardian, and Mikael; the only two people she cared about. It was SO f*ing obvious on the 2nd viewing I couldn't believe I missed it the first time.

Watched Young Adult last night. Really good. Not great, but amusing. Patton Oswalt was very good in it.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

I watched Super 8 last night, and it was just like I had heard. The movie overall was just a monster movie, but the kids were awesome in it. The kids made it something more, especially the 2 main character kids, the sheriff's boy and the blonde girl. It was worth watching, but I got the feeling that the movie could have been much better than what it ended up being.

That's funny, saw it yesterday also.

Agree, was good, not great. The kids were great though.

Kind of a modern E.T. with a little Stand by Me thrown in.

Finally saw Slumdog also - loved it. Great storytelling and great child acting it that one too.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

I'm a bit behind on movies, but watched "The Road" a few weeks ago and it's still lingering.

The next morning, my son had an early hockey game in a neighboring town about 45 minutes away. The drive took us through drizzly, gray, foggy, dead countryside and both of us were talking about how much it felt like the movie.

Cold, dreary, hopeless...

Kinda like my son's bantam team. :o

All I know is that Kyle Chandler is in it and I want to see it because of that. :)

Went to see Girl With The Dragon Tattoo today. Liked it a lot. Rooney Mara was very good in it. As was Daniel Craig. Both well cast. Right now I'm watching Contagion. This is so creepy.

Taking my second crack at Inception...

You pick up everything, and I mean everything, in the 3rd viewing. Then you can fully enjoy it in the fourth. ;)

Scarlet: no love for Skolsgard (sp?) as Martin? BPH and I agree the American version was better than the Swedish one with that character.
