New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

True, but for the most part, the changes from the book worked out pretty well- and I thought the films were a great success.

That said, I still had a lot of issues with some of the minor details in the film. Not necessarily the really nerdy, anal stuff (I don't care if Gandalf's sword didn't glow the way Sting did and as much as I love Tom Bombadil in the book, leaving him out of Fellowship was the right call), but there was still a lot about the details in the films that managed to irk me and make me wonder why they did it.

Despite the fact that I love Tom Bombadil there was just no way to have him in the movie without it being too long and going off track. It is like the Scouring of the Shire in Return of the King...even though it is an essential part of the book it would have made the movie about 4 hours long just to do it. Considering how long the books are, and how many stories and characters were created there is no way any trilogy could have done them all, and done them justice!

The extended editions of Fellowship and ROTK add in a lot of the stuff left out including hints at Tom Bombadil (the hobbits are attacked by the trees and almost swallowed up) and The Dark Soldier at the Black Gate. (which I always hated not being there originally because he was awesome to read about)

Two Towers I still think was only an above average movie, but to be fair the book was boring too. I also found it a bit obnoxious the Elves showed up in the movie, it was one of the few times Jackson forced something and had no need for it. One of the few things I think he got wrong.

I am going to see The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo tonight. Never read the books or seen the Swedish movies so I am going in blind! :)

Mentally prepare yourself for some pretty demented stuff. I read the book first, and I was not expecting what I ended up reading, but it was still a very, very good book.

Is this the 1st of the three in the series? I for some reason never put the Swedish ones into my Netflix queue so am not familiar with the order.

Yes. It goes: 1) Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 2) Girl Who Played with Fire 3) Girl Who Kicked a Hornet's Nest

It's official. Hollywood has run out of ideas. (Not that we didn't know this already)

The theater reax when I saw a trailer for this was 200 people simultaneously thinking it was a joke, then realizing it wasn't, then realizing they were probably going to go see it anyway.

It's definitely something I would see stoned if I was 20 years younger.

Is Brooklyn Decker the boobs on a stick? Meh. She has nice skin, but so do all 20-something girls.

You are probably the only person on the world, well, straight male at least, that thinks Brooklyn Decker is "meh".

Mmm hmm. Prefab plastic model #7 is the bestest prefab plastic model EVER! I hear it now comes off the assembly line in brunette, too.

Maxim's sales are assured for another year.

Wow, I hope I don't lose my taste for attractive women when I get old. My condolences.

Saw one of those stand-up ads at the theater last night for "21 Jump Street." I just shook my head. Terrible.
But did you watch the preview?

I didn't watch the show, why the hell would I watch the movie? ;)

Saw "The Conspirator" tonight. Pretty dam good. It helped that I had previously read "Manhunt" but it is not required reading.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Saw Girl With the Dragon Tattoo tonight and it was as good as advertised. It was almost 100% exactly like the book, only a couple things at the end strayed a little, but it didn't hurt the story at all. Everything from the movie was exactly how I pictured it from reading the book. This movie is so far above and beyond the original version, they're not even in the same ballpark. Rooney Mara was incredible, and she deserves Oscar consideration, and maybe should win it. I also think that Stellan Skarsgard deserves consideration for best supporting actor for his portrayal of Martin Vanger, he absolutely nailed it. And the movie should be up for best picture, and probably several other awards. Absolutely incredible.
