New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Saw Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol today. Good popcorn movie. Totally improbable. Lots of cartoon violence. Me like Jeremy Renner. So much more screen presence and charisma than CTC.

The Lincoln Lawyer:

A nice little twisty-turny movie. I love those movies that have legal/courtroom strategeries (A Few Good Men, etc). The ones that show that you can't do this, but if you put it in these words/terms, THEN you CAN do it. This wasn't a movie I loved, but it was entertaining and pretty solid. One part was obvious in the twist department, the others...maybe notsomuch. There were enough players in the game, so to speak. Grab some popcorn, and enjoy.

And Ryan Phillippe still sucks, btw. He only comes off as a smug arsehole because he can't act, and therefore seems emotionless and arrogant. Nope, that's how he acts.

Saw Senna last night: excellent. The amount/variety of archival footage was amazing. My wife loved it too and she couldn't care less about F1. Solid A.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Saw War Horse on Christmas. Not worth your time unless you really really love horses. The accents were poorly handled; the "German accents" with which the German soldiers speak were pretty much indistinguishable from the English accents with which the English soldiers speak, to the point where I couldn't tell who anyone was other than the main characters. It would've been better to have the Germans simply speaking German with subtitles in my opinion, though I guess that would render the movie less accessible to the Spielberg-loving masses. The one somewhat redeeming scene, I thought, came toward the end (whited out for spoilers) with the dialogue in the scene where the English soldier and the German soldier came together in no-man's land to cut the horse loose from the barbed wire. "You speak good English." "I speak English well." was a great exchange.

Also: Stifler is starring in a hockey movie? How did I not hear about this sooner?

The Hustler:

Great movie. Newman shines. However, and with that "however" the first line in this post becomes relevant, I think George C Scott really is the meat of the story. Newman is the name on the cereal box, Scott is the cereal. Phenomenal job in providing how Newman's character really is, moving the story forward, the callousness that the movie needs to develop Newman's character. Bravo.

Mission Impossible 4 - So ridiculous it becomes predictable and straight forward.

I still had a good time with it however. I wouldn't see it again...

The cool thing about the MI TV series was it didn't take itself too seriously. I hope the movie franchise is moving in that direction. That and they should drop Shorty McNuts and reboot the films with Mr. Phelps.

Fred Phelps would be terrible in that role.

And I don't think Michael would be any better.

Ahem.

I just got back from seeing it, and there were some good jokes. I think Cruise takes the role very seriously, but his character did have a few chuckles sprinkled into the film. Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner play off each other very well for some funny moments; the whole bit with magnets and catching is pretty good.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Pegg was great (as always). The blonde was a lot sexier and more interesting than the brunette -- I wish they had swapped roles. Cruise is... what he is. Lots of running with his tiny little legs. It was fun watching all the different ways they shot scenes to make him appear not to be a dwarf.

The Burj Khalifa completely stole the show -- amazing building.

Mickey & Mallory Knox are without a doubt the most twisted depraved pair of sh*f*s it has ever been my displeasure to lay my god dam eyes on. I tell you these two motherf*ers are a walking reminder of just how f*ed up this system really is.

You don't like this? Terrorists have won. Period.

The trailer for the new Sacha Baron Cohen movie looked awesome.

"Act of Valor" looks like a steaming pile directed by Leni Riefenstahl.

Bad Teacher was much funnier than it had any right to be.

And it kinda reinforced the fact that it's a good thing I didn't choose teaching as a profession....;)

Good thing for your potential students as well.
I can't imagine how warped they'd be after being taught by you. ;)
