You lost me there.

Again he's by far from a top actor, but I don't find his acting in the movies I named any more repetitive (and imho he wasn't all that repetitive to being with) than most other high end actors with as many credits.

At the risk of agreeing with Handyman on any movie, No Way Out was lame -- there have been a hundred movies exactly like it, and almost all of them were done better.

Costner is a character actor who lucked into leading roles. Nothing against him -- character actors are a staple of the medium. But he's got Luis Castillo's range.

I just finished watching the 2009 Star Trek movie again. That there is just a fun movie from start to end. It's far from deep, and nothing like anything else in Star Trek franchise history. It's just fun. And the green chick was really hot.

I still want to know why the guy had to say to polarize the viewscreen at the start. What were the people on the bridge sitting there in super blinding horrible light until the captain showed up?

Dude, it's an action flick. It in no way has to make sense at every moment. In fact, this guy has a good take on the movie:

I can't listen to that guy.

And no, it's not just an action flick you should just forget about it. It's just so blatantly wrong when all it would have taken to fix it is to have him ask for the screen to be turned on and then they have to polarize it.

Dude, it's an action movie, not a political statement on the trappings of life or other such "film" snobbery. It's not anything to get overly excited about.

Quotients for being a good movie:
Did it entertain me?
Did it keep me from being bored during the WHOLE movie?

If one yes answer, good movie. If two yes answers, it's a really fun movie.

If you're looking for every technical detail to be just right, read a good operating manual.

Seems to me that you're the one getting worked up, pointing out details irrelevant to what I said. The movie was entertaining, I agree with you, however I am stuck with that moment in my head after seeing it and wondering how they didn't pick that up. Regardless of what type of movie it is, they are spending millions of dollars, and they can afford someone to go through and fix errors in the script before filming.

The Expendables is on Watch Instantly from Netflix. I may not leave my couch for a few days...

Watched Castle in the Sky last night. Pretty good movie in the vein of Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away. Wouldn't want to watch 'em every day, but a nice change of pace from the normal Hollywood stuff.

Got around to seeing "Kiss Me Kate," probably one of the last American songbook musicals I'd never seen. Starts slow but the final 2/3rds of it are amazing, and I did not realize how much balls to the wall great dancing it has -- Bob Fosse has a minor (amazing) role and he's probably not even the third-best dancer on the boards (!).


It was also a kick to see the Winter Warlock play a gangster.

Also finally saw Dan O'Bannon's "Return of the Living Dead," which is very good-natured 80's fun.

The review of the Star Trek movie is lot more nit-picky than the Star Wars ones... I almost felt uncomfortable at certain points.

But he is right...normally the average Trekkie would have been burning JJ Abrams in effigy over any one of those screwups...it is weird they let it go now.

After suffering through voyager and enterprise, basically everything since First Contact, that has been total crap, anything was an improvement.

Bought two Blu-Ray special editions this week.

Lord of the Rings (all 3 movies)
Star Wars (all 6 movies)

So anyone wanna buy my regular DVD special extended edition LOTR (12 discs) sets? or my Widescreen Star Wars box set (4 discs I think)? :)
