Even if the films weren't always the best I enjoyed many of his performances. Dances..., No Way Out, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, Revenge, Wyatt Earp, The War, Thirteen Days...

Also consider the roles offered to him that he turned down while creating DWW - The Hunt For Red October being one of them. He's no actor for the ages to be sure but DWW, No Way Out and Thirteen Days should alone imho give the guy some space.

I don't like Costner either, but he is great in Thirteen Days and Open Range. The latter of which I think is an underrated western.

He was wistful-perfect for Field of Dreams and sexy-perfect for Bull Durham. Other than that, he should never be cast as a lead -- he plays the same guy, all the time.

(Then again, so did Jimmy Stewart.)

Finally saw Gran Torino last night, and loved it. It was a good enough movie that I had the patience to wait through commercials on regular TV -- literally can't remember the last time I did that.

Gran Torino is awesome. And for me, it really did have that midwestern feel (IIRC, it was shot in MI). How the characters talked/acted, little things.

No Way Out? That movie was terrible...I mean so horrible it wasnt even worth seeing the limo scene! God what a worthless piece of crap. The scriptwriter, director and all the actors should have gone to prison for making that asinine waste of time and space.

Costner is good in some things...Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, Tin Cup, the Untouchables, DWW...hell even Wyatt Earp wasnt terrible. Problem is when the movie is bad, his cruddy acting drags it down even farther like an anchor. He is not unlike Dennis Quaid.

And Gran Torino rules :)

The Italian Job (the remake)

To say that this is a poor man's "Ocean's Eleven" (the remake version) would mean that I am being more than polite, and that's putting it in a polite way. Sure, how the scheme works is sort of interesting, just to see what cockamamie way they do things, but honestly, this might not even make it as a Saturday Afternoon Killer. You know what the ending is. They don't really try and hide it. Even if you're a Yooper, you could figure out what the end result will be.

That being said, it strengthens my fandom for Mini Coopers. ;) And Charlize Theron is still hot. Yeah, those are about the only plusses for this movie.

Am I the ONLY person in the world who liked Waterworld? The trimaran scene where it unfolds and starts blowing across the sea was SOO cool. But also as a sci-fi action flick, I really liked it. Almost every review I ever saw about it started with 'It was the costliest movie ever made' and the review went downhill from there.

I enjoyed it even with it's many issues. Too bad it's impossible to get a copy of an actual extended cut of it even though it was much better. Although now that I've dug around a bit, someone did put out a version of it that took the extended but tv censored version from ABC and put back in the cut content.

Currently watching The Adjustment Bureau. Pretty intriguing so far, even if it isn't very subtle about it's subject matter.

Appaloosa is on. Despite Renee's best efforts, this movie still is awesome.
