New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Not even close to what reviewers are making it out to be. On rottentomatoes.com it's sitting on par with films such as Dragonball Evolution, an affront to all things good and decent. I haven't seen the original in a while but I remember it being almost absurdly campy. Quite honestly, aside from a couple scenes in the original, I thought this one was better.

Spoiler
I did want Freddy to actually be innocent and that the kids had all lied. Him being focused on the kids because it was their fault rather than the parents would have been different.

The first one really isnt super campy for the time, nowadays it is a laugh riot! Still my favorite horror franchise because of how absurd it got. The new one looks really good which surprises me.

Remaking Commando is a crime and the Governator should go to court to stop it ****it!

Remake Real Genius...people need to die!

House Party was already remade, it was called House Party 2 ;)

And because it needs to be done...fast forward to about 4:30:

Already gave my thumbs up after watching this one.

Yup, avoid.
For the full horror of just how ****ing terrible that series is, this poor man has gone through and read and summarized each chapter.

That said, the movies are watchable if you are listening to the rifftrax, aka mystery science theater 3000 guys.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

I'm going to make it my life's goal to never see any of these movies - because for a variety of reasons, these should never have been made:

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/nightmare_on_elm_street_2010/
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1212891-furry_vengeance/
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/human_centipede/

and let's just hammer this home...

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/twilight_saga_eclipse/

VAMPIRES DO NOT SHIMMER.
I just got home from seeing A Nightmare on Elm Street. It never mattered what the reviews said. I was always going to go see it.

Last scene of the entire movie is the best one.

There was no need to remake that movie. That's all I'm saying.
Yup, avoid.
The only way that would be worse would be if the Human Centipede was forced to watch Furry Vengeance.

Best Brains makes everything better. Manos, Rowsdower, etc...

Ikiru

*ing excellent movie. Basic plot is a 30 year vet of civil service finds he has a year to live, so he quits his job (realizing that he was just passing time there) and intends to drink himself to death (never really had a drink in his life). However, a couple people inspire him to really live.

Usually, movies stop or do a simple recap after the main guy's death. Not this movie. Great use of flashback storytelling, awesome character development, and very solid story.

Very much recommend this one.

Silly Little Game. One of ESPN's 30 for 30 series (I promise, this one is great, and yes I saw the Gretzky one and yes it was terrible, but trust me) on the "Founding Fathers" of Rotisserie Baseball. Very, very funny.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Joe Posnanski on Brendan Fraser:

If I was a producer making a movie about, oh, I don’t know, Hong Kong Phooey, and I had enough money to pay any actor in Hollywood, I would take Brendan Fraser. Tom Hanks wouldn’t give his all. George Clooney would walk through the role with sarcasm. Russell Crowe would punch the director. Matt Damon would wink throughout, demanding that everyone be in on the joke. Robert DeNiro would want Hong Kong Phooey to lock bad guys in a trunk. Al Pacino would say “Hoo ha!” a lot. Robin Williams would want to do all the voices. Johnny Depp would turn Hong Kong Phooey into a frightening and dark figure.

But Brendan Fraser … I know he would try. And that means a lot to me. Maybe someday he will get a great role, perfect for him, and he will win an Oscar. Maybe someday he will play Alfalfa in an adult version of “The Little Rascals.” Either way, I know I can count on him. And there just aren’t that many people you can count on.

Red Rock West (Cage, Hopper)

It was an okay movie. Parts of it were really good, some decent twists, and other times the acting was so bland and non-descriptive it drove me nuts. Hopper was Hopper, of course. That's always entertaining.

Worth a see if you just want to watch a movie and aren't particular.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Wow, the reviews on RottenTomatoes really like MacGruber.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

The Hurt Locker

Pretty good movie. Slower-paced for most of it, which worked in this setting. You definitely get involved with the characters, too. I could have done without the action tangent towards the end, but oh well.

Definitely should see it.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Finally finished watching Planet Earth. What a beautiful documentary.

I'm also glad I didn't buy it because I probably wouldn't watch it again or wouldn't watch it any time soon to justify dropping 40 dollars plus on the set.

Yep.

Went and saw Ironman 2 Thursday. Clearly, its not Shakesphere, but it delievers on what its suppost to be, an action comedy for Marvel fanboys. Seemed to me they stayed pretty true to most of the Ironman canon, and put together a pretty good action movie. Rothman was great as Justin Hammer, the swarmy second fiddle to Stark, who could never quite best him no matter how much he wanted to.

and just an FYI, and not to Spoil anything, be sure to stick around for after the credits. ;)

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Saw IM2 today. It's ok, but I enjoyed the first one much more. Both Rothman and Rourke are fun. Johansson is possibly the only beautiful actress since 1959.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Up In The Air

Great movie. While Anna Kendrick (the young upstart) overdid her "all business" character at first (think: robot delivery), she eventually started actually acting in the movie. Clooney and Farmiga work well together, and the story was really good. Brings up a few good points about lifestyles and such, and it was really entertaining.

On the "should see" list.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Well, Godfather's on ABC, so I guess I'm staying up until 4 am."

I am actually off to see this now, I have been surprised by some of the reactions from fanboys and reviewers it isnt nearly as ZOMG!!!1!!1!1! RDJ AZ TONY IZ DA GRATEST OF ALLZ TIMES!!1!11

And why wait til after the credits...just go on youtube ;)

That reminds me though, I don't get this whole "lets put another scene after the credits" bs. It was cute for a couple minutes as a way to kind of have fun, but now like every movie does it so it has become beyond cliche. Here is an idea, put the scene in the movie so that way the people who paid 10 bucks to see your movie dont have to worry about seeing 8 minutes worth of credits...trust me they dont care who the key grip is :p
