New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Timecrimes was great... I hate hollywood and and their crappy crappy remakes of good foreign movies (see REC/Quarantine and Let the Right One In)

Add Ringu/The Ring. Now I'll have to see REC -- I didn't know about it.

It's laugha-tragical they're remaking the amazing, fragile, subtle Let the Right One In for a dumbed-down American audience -- the "Swedishness" of that movie is half the atmosphere. They'll probably remake it with a Harry Potter clone and whoever Disney is whoring out as the next Miley Cyrus.

I havent actually seen REC either. But everything I hear is that Quarantine basically is a shot for shot line for line remake....except in REC the people can act. And apparently there are some other nuances as well. REC I believe is vampire-esqe rather than zombie like if I am not mistaken.

Due to budget problems, "Bond 23" may be pushed back until 2013.

Is "budget problems" a euphemism for "they're having mortal combat over rights and revenue again"?
MGM may be folding. Until they can get their financials in order, big budget movies, like a Bond film, will have to wait. I thought that I read MGM is looking for a buyer or possibly a capital firm to either float them some loans or become partners. It's been a week since I read this, so details a sketchy.

Basically the same movie but not exact, but the infection is some kind of biological "demonic" possession thing some vatican researcher was trying to cure. It's a lot faster paced and only about 1:10 long.

The ending is a bit stronger though.

Death at a Funeral, anyone?

British comedy turned into a Chris Rock/Tracey Morgan flick.

I heard about that. Didnt list it as I was not familiar with the original. Im sure we could think of more... Internal Affairs/Departed for example (only 2 years between them). And yes I know that Departed is considered a good movie by many. REC/Quarantine was only 1 year differance betwen release dates. Death at a Funeral - 3 years. Let the Right One In was released in 2008. So its not that old either. And Timecrimes was 2007...so thats 4 years. I guess what makes me so mad is that Hollywood cant even wait a while before doing a crappy remake.

Safe to say that Hollywood is aiming for a... different demographic with this remake.

The original is outstanding and hilarious. Odd that Peter Dinklage is the only one who's in both.

If there was ever a role that was written for Gary Coleman...

Of course, Hollywood doesn't stop with remaking foreign films. How about the Hulk? Also, I seem to remember seeing ads for a Jimmy Fallon movie called Taxi that was a remake of a US film from a couple years earlier.

Back to the topic of earlier.... there will be a sequel to REC. REC 2 will pick up right where the first one left with the SWAT team going in to try and clean things up. Trailer:

Swat fail, unless there's some BS about them not being killable by bullets. I think there was like 12 people who would be infected in that building.

And the dog that helped start it all off at the vets is pretty much going to unleash it on the world already.

Saw Tales of Desperaux on HBO today. Not impressed.

Nothing about the movie was even average quality.
