On the Pineapple Express conversation: I thought James Franco was really funny in that movie.

Well that begs the question...did your mom smoke weed while you were in the womb? I mean we know she obviously drank paint thinner seeing as you are a Wisconsin/Green Bay fan ( ;) ) but either she was puffing the magic dragon or she dropped you on your head as a child! ;)

:D

Chinese water torture.

Charlie Wilson's War:

I really liked this movie, and Julia Roberts didn't even ruin it. ;)

The banter between Hanks/Hoffman was classic (especially in the scene where they first meet, that whole scene was probably my favorite in the movie).

Kinda skewers government, while also providing basic info on the whole funding Afghanistan to fight the Commies story.

It's definitely worth a look-see, and while it is more on the light-hearted side, there are some barbed undertones in the movie.

It's bad enough Johnny Depp has agreed to make another POTC sequel, now Karate Kid is being re-done.

Old news, unless it's not the version with Will Smith's kid as the karate kid and Jackie Chan as Mr. Miagi.

Well it's better than the last one Ralph Macchio was in. I think the guy was about forty trying to play a teenager ... The only thing missing was hairplugs and gold chains. :D

So how good is the movie Swordfish? Sounds good, but I'm wary of anything with John Travolta in it.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

There's about 4 seconds of the movie worth watching. ;)

I think what brent is trying to say is: "how much time are you willing to waste just to see Halle Berry's ****?"

I'm glad I trusted my intuition. :)

If you can tell me where those 4 seconds of glory though, I'd much appreciate it, I'd pop it in for 4 seconds of heaven. :p

I have two unviewed movies in a random DVD collection. I'm wondering if one of them is worth watching. Swordfish is out apparently, that doesn't surprise me. (Although, I'd definitely still watch those 4 seconds if anyone can tell me where it is. :D )

The other. Clint Eastwood's Hang Em High. That's gotta be good, right?

Just do a google search for the four seconds. It's easier that way.

And it's Eastwood. Your odds are good.

I went to a 3pm showing of Avatar on IMAX today. I was thinking it might be halfway full, and that I could still probably get a good middle seat some where in the theature. I got one of the last ten tickets for that showing.

Well worth reading the book if you want more of the politics.

I read the book first, after all the Imus hype of it. The book is more political commentary, the movie is more social commentary, each built around the Afghan troubles.

À bout de souffle (Breathless)

1960 film from Jean-Luc Godard about a two-bit thief on the lam after killing a cop, and the girl that falls in love with him but won't fully submit because she suspects (and later confirms) he's not an honest man. Regarding the film itself, I had a hard time caring about either of the main characters, however from the standpoint of the making of the film I was quite fascinated. Godard was considered a revolutionary, and an originator of the, "all style, no substance" genre that influenced the likes of Tarantino. There's some quirky editing, a dependence on background music to convey a mood and some very witty scenes of dialogue between Michel and Patricia. Glad I rented this one.

Tyson:

Very good documentary. No narration, pretty much a 90 minute interview/retrospective from Iron Mike. Some of the things he says makes you think he's a savage, and other times you really feel for him. It's interesting hearing what was going on in his head during some of his most infamous fights (the Buster Douglas, the Holyfield Ear, etc).

Much better than many of the articles you might have read over the years, or the in-depth interviews also.

I'd say it's very much worth watching.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

I saw The Lovely Bones tonight...I really really enjoyed it. Stanley Tucci was fantastic, Marky Mark was surprisingly good, the main character was outstanding and Peter Jackson showed again why I think he might just be one of the best in the business right now. I don't know how much more I can recommend a movie.

I also rewatched a personal fave, Truman with Gary Sinise. Very well done HBO movie based on the biography by McCullough. (sp?)
