Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

Last night we saw 'Greenfingers' via Netflix. Brit humor. Very good movie in a very subtle way. Murderers in prison become gardeners.

Watched Lord of War again the other night. Just as good as the first time (though also as terrifying given that it's based on actual events).

Saw Because I Said So last night because I <3 Diane Keaton. (she also reminds me of my mom). Movie was "meh" as expected.

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

No I know that :D

At least it wasnt Michael Bay and his need to suck at making movies! My lord has anyone been paid more to suck?

I give you the opening of David Denby's review in the current (I think) issue of "The New Yorker:" " 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,' directed by the stunningly, almost viciously untalented Michael Bay..."

I love that concept: viciously untalented.

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

Transformers 2 was the worst movie I have ever seen. I am baffled that the same writers for this load of crap wrote Star Trek.

I watched Rollerball last night. (The original, not the remake.) It was pretty good.

If that is the review I am thinking of...man was that cold! My buddy sent it to me and even I felt bad for Michael Bay after reading it! Still didn't make me want to see Transformers 1 or 2 because, well, I have better things to do with my time and money :D

Star Trek was easy to write, the key was the performances they needed to be spot on. Basically they just needed to take an episode and make it longer. They didn't have to stick to canon because it was an alternate timeline so they had carte blanche to do what they pleased. (which was good or the Trekkies would have gone batchit crazy over every friggin detail!)

And the worst movie ever made is still Miami Vice...holy crap did that suck! I mean it sucked so much I would rather watch X-Men 3, Spidey 3, Mission Impossible 3 AND War of the Worlds back to back than have to sit through the whole movie. One of two movies I ever walked out of!

To be fair to them, the writer's strike kind of hamstrung them, as they had to get a treatment ready, give it to Bay, who expanded it, added jokes and most of the new characters, and then they had to finish the script off when the strike ended.

They also weren't especially happy with some of the things added to the script, for example:
Switching back to Transformers, I heard that the gold tooth was Bay’s idea, but do you have anything to say to people who found The Twins offensive?

Orci: Number one, we sympathize. Yes, the gold tooth was not in the script. That’s true.

Kurtzman: It’s really hard for us to sit here and try to justify it. I think that would be very foolish, and if someone wants to be offended by it, it’s their right. We were very surprised when we saw it, too, and it’s a choice that was made. I think if anything it shows you that we don’t control every aspect of the movie.

Were you offended by them?

Kurtzman: I wasn’t thrilled. I certainly wasn’t thrilled.

Orci: Same reaction. I’m not easily offended, but when I saw it, I thought, ‘Someone’s gonna write about that.’”

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

I haven't posted on here in forever, so i apologize if someone brought it up in a different thread, but has anyone seen "transsiberian"? Not a perfect 10, but overall a pretty solid movie. It started awfully slow, but was eventually well worth it. About a half hour in i was kicking myself for choosing this one, but once its takes off it gets **** good.

"We just get Miami Wice on television! Miami Wice is number one new show!"

I would agree. I had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on for pretty much the entire movie. It was also boring as hell and stupid as hell. That's helluva lot of hells. To besmirch the good names of Crocket and Tubbs like that is just plain sad.

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

Using a favorite formula of mine:

Star power + expectations / quality of movie....

"Nothing But Trouble" is still the worst movie ever. Followed closely by "Mars Attacks!" (and yes, I got what Mars Attacks! was trying to do).

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

No one had any expectations for Nothing But Trouble...your equation is skewed because that movie was never expected to anything but put drug money in Chevy Chase's pocket and showcase Digital Underground :p

I'm usually pretty easy on movies. If I'm entertained for while, it's fine by me. To that point, though, those Twin characters were some kind of horrible. The movie would have been much better without those two. Producers should take this as a note for future movies - just don't let Michael Bay touch a script. Let the key grip do something with it before Bay's allowed anywhere near it.

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

You know every time I see a preview for GI Joe I want to see it less...my god you smell the suck on that piece of crap!

I dunno. I mean, it DOES have a Wayans brother in it.....that could be a clue......but from the few seconds I've seen, it doesn't look horrible.....yet.

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

Why does it not shock me that the twins were Bay's idea? They barely showed Ratchet in the whole movie...why not send him with the humans and Bumblebee? Or what about the blue Autobot who showed up randomly at the end? I looked at tPOV and said "Who's that? Has he been in the whole movie?"

That was jolt. I think he was in the opening scene and then the autobots hangar scene.
