Ignoring condemning the person for his vote... an honest question- if you are sick, what good does it do to scan yourself? Even with the nominal flu, you should be avoiding everyone near you to prevent spreading it. Seems like the public health officials should be the ones that are worried and should be doing the scanning of people....

BTW, this is a real question, not wondering what the person was doing.... I don't see a benefit of knowing that info- if I'm sick, I'm sick, and other than dealing with the symptoms, the health care professionals can't really help. So that is what makes me wonder if it's worthwhile or not.

Well, it's a question of contacts. Did you have contact with anyone who's in an at-risk category? They can be monitored as well.

You're wrong about the health care professionals not being able to help. Something like 20% of cases required hospitalization. 5% required artificial respiration. I really think you'd be wise to read the summary of the WHO report Deutsche posted. This isn't just a cold. It's potentially worse than the flu.

It also helps health officials determine extent of spread. If you get it tomorrow, that's important to know. If you get it in August, less so, I assume.

Listen, this fact that people can get sick and might need medical attention and that might cost money came as a surprise to us. People can get sick. Not many people know that. They come up to me and say "sir, we just got sick". Sad.

Seems to me the people that die from it develop something a lot like pneumonia. Good luck self-treating that at home.

That would fall under the "other than treat the symptoms"- and I guess I could add additional side effects. Like pneumonia.

But in terms of actually treating the actual virus, there is nothing they can do. And we should remind ourselves that a vaccine is worthless when you already have the virus.

Still, other than the healthcare tracking people, why should I self test myself? If I'm honest, I would just tell people I'm in contact with, anyway.

THere are plenty of places that do not offer anything other than the junk plans. mr les works for the state. Our deductible for well known insurance co has risen this yr to 10k for the family or 6k for an individual. There are no other options that are better. Every year it is worse and worse. Getting to the point that even with some prescriptions it would cost less for us to drop the insurance and put the money in an interest bearing acct. The only thing that stops us is if someone has a really catastrophic event that lands them in the ER segwaying into the ICU then the insurance would be useful.

No, no, no. Even if you want to do the crapshoot and believe the stuff about there is nothing they can do- the only way we are going to get a handle on this is lots of data points and monitoring cases. That said, the disjointed, incompetent way the HHS guy and the Czar of COVID Confusion are managing this what ever data points we are getting are useless.

WHo the hell would be foolish enough to pay attention to anything that is coming out of the WH anyway? About the only thing it is good for is a photo op. Nothing they say that isn't instantly refuted or corrected since they started giving public statements. They can't even manage to to censor info competently. WHO is great for info. And there is a lot of CDC commentary they can't seem to silence.

Our company has had ZERO communications about general preparation and how we should respond except for international travel.

It’s an astonishing lack of leadership. They should have a plan and publish it. The time is now before this goes widespread in the US. It’s unreal.

I know they’re scared of a few people taking a few sick days unnecessarily. But imagine a couple people who spread it throughout the office and now you have dozens of people out for two weeks or more.

Shoddy leadership. My company has already had the comms out including that well be paid if caught up in a quarantine

Yeah. I’m very upset with it. They have these stupid generic emails with insipid fluff pieces about how they’re ramping up mask production and donating supplies. But zero guidance for employees.

They told us basically no Asia business travel except for resources who live there and are going home. All non-essential travel is strongly discouraged, but not banned yet. Sounds like we've got a few dozen worldwide who caught it, mostly in China.
