Re: nCoV 2019-2020 Outbreak

From a BBC story I heard today, the reason they found the Kirkland case was the CDC changed their guidelines from testing people who had traveled to anybody the doctor thinks displays symptoms. The case was somebody who hasn't traveled at all, so he picked it up locally. They theorize the virus has actually been active in the area for weeks, under the radar.

Speaking of time, they are theorizing the virus has been in the state of Washington for eight weeks.

Of course that also suggests the infection and lethality rates are lower than they thought, too, so yay I guess?

Yes, I read that the number of cases of people infected is going to skyrocket in the next week or so, but that isn't necessarily a reason to panic. Just that people who may have been exposed or exhibited symptoms are finally getting confirming test results.

Re: nCoV 2019-2020 Outbreak

I just realized something, this could have a pretty significant impact to the census, couldn't it?

I haven't heard anyone discussing possible impacts yet.

I’ve heard a little. And this would probably help dump.

Re: nCoV 2019-2020 Outbreak

It's going to ravage the old white people in Florida and Arizona. I get the impression they're the reason those states are red/purple.

I think old Jews on the Atlantic coast will vote for Sanders and old Evangies on the Gulf coast will vote for Dump, so the Olds Carousel is a wash.

Re: nCoV 2019-2020 Outbreak

Dr. Matt McCarthy, a staff physician at New York-Presbyterian:

“I’m here to tell you, right now, at one of the busiest hospitals in the country, I don’t have [a rapid diagnostic test] at my finger tips.” “I still have to make my case, plead to test people. This is not good. We know that there are 88 cases in the United States. There are going to be hundreds by middle of week. There’s going to be thousands by next week. And this is a testing issue.”

“In New York State, the person who tested positive is only the 32nd test we’ve done in this state,” he said. “That is a national scandal. [...] They’re testing 10,000 a day in some countries and we can’t get this off the ground,” McCarthy said. “I’m a practitioner on the firing line, and I don’t have the tools to properly care for patients today.” (Video, CNBC)

Time to start lighting these news fires until the admin learns they're ****ing this up. bad.

Re: nCoV 2019-2020 Outbreak

Two more potential cases in Illinois. A few more deaths in Washington State.

And Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and his wife are being checked out as potential "Patient Zero" cases in California as they returned from China with persistent flu like symptoms.

But it's all a big hoax still.

Re: nCoV 2019-2020 Outbreak

In Iran the deaths that have been reported have been disproportionally among the rich. So now it's a crisis.

BTW, this will warm everyone's cockles at the thought of global unity. Iranians are just like regular people. The Iranian government has been using college students to go around administering free home testing so now young Iranians are impersonating the testers to gain entry to the homes which they then burglarize.

God bless the entrepreneurial spirit.

This is what happens when you purge career government workers because of a political ideology that they either don't do anything, are bloated government, or are some sort of Deep State conspiracy against you, and either leave those positions empty, or replace them with inexperienced, incompetent toadies.

This is what people wanted when they said they wanted to burn it all down. Congratulations, you got your wish.

It all goes back to Reagan: the scariest words in the English language are "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

That acid was poured all over America for 40 years. This is the damage. The only silver lining is the people who voted for it are among the worst hit.

Re: nCoV 2019-2020 Outbreak

“Called city officials in Kirkland, WA, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, to ask if they've heard from anyone on the White House task force.

Answer: "Not directly."”

Re: nCoV 2019-2020 Outbreak

Given that there is discussion already about cancelling the Olympics, I was wondering about any other major events. Like the Frozen Four. I know that the Olympics are in Japan and the Frozen Four (as well as the Final Four, the Masters, etc.) are here in the US but they still represent large gatherings of people. I would hope the NCAA has been discussing this. Though, they're based in Indiana, home of the CoronaVirus King Mike Pence, so maybe not.
