Re: NCHA 10-11.....**** You St. Norbert
I’ll take on nbound’s comments point by point:
“The gag order is no longer in effect.” Thank God. I thought I might not live long enough to witness the end of the reign of terror.
“When Go Jackets heard from a source that Ann Ninnemann would destroy Stevens Point within 5 yrs his source wasn't far from the truth.” This is a joke, right? I pondered who “Deep Throat” might be and my imagination got the best of me. Picture this: It’s closing time at the Anchor Inn and Jackets is wobbling on his stool when an imaginary SP alum staggers in from the cold. The vision explains that he is deeply imbedded in the workings of the Point program and convinces the vulnerable Jackets that the end of the world is near. Back to reality: Only another disgruntled SP parent would forge an alliance with the Jacket lover. And if it feeds the BS engine, it must be the truth. Two things are for sure: 1. Jackets, admirably, has an undying allegiance to his team. 2. He is far from an authority on the intricacies of the game of hockey and the UW Superior program. Most certainly he is not an authority on the Pointer program.
“This is the first year of Ann Ninnemann having a team that 100% hers. All of Brian Idalski's players are now gone.” Coach Ninnemann was hand picked by Brian Idalski to succeed him. She was his captain and was an assistant coach in 2005-2006. He was heavily recruited to DI that previous summer and knew he would be leaving the following year. Not only did he and coach Dakins mentor Ann, she was assigned the responsibility of recruiting immediately after her last season. And, if you know anything about the recruiting process, you know that the captains of the team are heavily involved with courting recruits when they come to visit. So Ann had a lot to do with helping recruit Idalski’s players in previous years.
“One defenseman from this years recruiting class has quit the team, So has an upperclassman.” Happens all the time. Take a good look at Idalski’s rosters over the years and you will see turn-over. It happens for many different reasons. Some are the coach’s decision. Some are the player’s decision. Many are due to lack of playing time and disillusioned players / parents because they are not realistic about their abilities and/or the expectations in college hockey. Also, many players are not actually “recruited”. They come on board in tryout mode and do not realize that every single day is a tryout. I am fairly confident that your daughter was not “recruited” and I know for a fact that you and her had unrealistic expectations. I remember you stating that your daughter deserved a regular shift simply because she was a sophomore at the time but freshman were getting the playing time.
“Her first year of coaching was a breeze and the players made her look good. 2006-2007 She had had no recruits. All the players were recruited by Idalski. Inspite of her coaching abilities they went 20-7-2 and took third at the NCAA's ”. Sure was a breeze. She took over for a legend, lost 3 outstanding seniors from the previous year, had 7 freshman (no recruits?) and 2 seniors on the team and led them to 3rd in the nation. I’m sure you could have done that. These are all ignorant comments.
“Since Ninnemann took over the head coaching position at Steven Point in 2006-2007,5 of Idalskis payers quit or left the program. During her first three years of recruiting she recruited and brought into the program 22 players. Of that,10 have quit ! That's a whopping 0.455 % Who knows how many more will be leaving after the break or end of the year? Does the name Bart Star ring a bell in coaching circles? “ First of all, get some math lessons from your intelligent daughter. 0.455% is expressed as less than ½ of 1%. Your calculation is 45.5%. And if your “whopping” math was even close to correct, Point would currently be fielding about 10 players. The NCHA has nearly doubled in size since Idalski left. That makes recruiting twice as hard and is what Coach Ninnemann is now dealing with. You’re a big help. Did you help Bart Starr too? Geez.
Here’s my bottom line:
In 3 ½ years, your daughter has been a bench player, at best. As related to ability, this is neither your daughter’s, or the coaches, fault. It is what it is. Attitude is a different story.
You are not in touch with reality and you are blaming the coaching staff. You have been upset with the lack of playing time for more than 3 years. Because of this, you ooze negativity and feed off of anyone who feels they are in the same situation, or has an axe to grind (Jackets). This, unfortunately, has been imparted to your daughter. I believe she was suspended for the NCHA playoffs 2 years ago due to “conduct detrimental to the team”.
You think you know how to run this fine organization better than the staff. Now you have decided to hurt the team anyway you can. It does not matter that Ann Ninnemann and Craig Dakins are dedicated, competent, and solid citizens that act in the best interests of the Pointer program. You have been wronged, and you will get even.
So you air it out on the forum and YOU are going to the AD. You needed to let go when your daughter 1st walked into that locker room. And if issues need to be addressed, they should be addressed by your daughter.
You are right about a couple of things: Stevens Point is an excellent school and atmosphere, and there is more to life than hockey. So grow up, get a life, and let your daughter get one too. Maybe the “Trouble in Stevens Point” will disappear.
