NCAA Semifinal OSU vs SNC

Re: NCAA Semifinal OSU vs SNC

I admire your optimism, but I can't see anyone beating either one of these teams 5-1 at this point in the year...

I think we're likely to see three 1-or-2 goal differentials. Possibly a 2-goal win with an ENG. It's going to be a tight weekend, with at least 180 minutes of hotly contested hockey.

Re: NCAA Semifinal OSU vs SNC

Have they formally announced which game is at which time? I know I'm planning on Oswego playing at 4, but I just checked the NCAA website and it still says ''TBD''

Oswego has the early game at 4 p.m.

Second game is Plattsburgh/Norwich starting at 7:30 p.m.

Re: NCAA Semifinal OSU vs SNC

I don't think it will be 5-1 either way. It is going to be tough sledding for both teams. I haven't seen St. Norbert to be honest, but I know they are a hard working team. Any word on Selleck and Whitelaw? How are their respective shoulder injuries doing?

Re: NCAA Semifinal OSU vs SNC

St. Norbert game notes. Yet another bomb dropped by the Green Machine himself: the poster who assumes the overly confusing name of "SNC SID".

Some points of historical interest:

St. Norbert is 84-34-13 against teams ranked in the USCHO.com Poll under Tim Coghlin. The Green Knights are 0-3 all-time against the No. 1-ranked team and are 2-5 all-time against the No. 2-ranked team.

St. Norbert is 21-16-4 all-time against East Region opponents.
St. Norbert is 13-7-3 all-time on East Region ice.
The Green Knights are 9-5-2 all-time in the State of New York.
The Green Knights are 8-3-1 all-time against the State University of New York Athletic Conference, including a 2-0 mark against Plattsburgh State and an 0-2 ledger against Oswego State.
St. Norbert is 2-2 against the ECAC East, going 1-2 against Norwich and 1-0 against Southern Maine.

And some stuff more pertinent to this season:
Ice Chips:
* - St. Norbert’s scoring defense of 1.69 goals per game is second in Division III to Norwich’s 1.38 goals per game. (Oswego and Plattsburgh are 4th and 5th, respectively)
* - St. Norbert is 18-0-3 this season when it scores the game’s first goal, and is 5-3 when its opponent does.

I'd also like to note that these are 4 of the top 5 teams in average Scoring Margin:
Code:
Scoring Margin: Games GF GF/G GA GA/G Margin
  1 Adrian 28 188 6.71 69 2.46 4.25
  2 Norwich 29 142 4.90 40 1.38 3.52
  3 Oswego 28 151 5.39 55 1.96 3.43
  4 St. Norbert 29 122 4.21 49 1.69 2.52
  5 Plattsburgh 28 123 4.39 57 2.04 2.36

We are confirmed for a casual get-together hosted by The Oswego Alumni Association, along with the SUNY Oswego Athletic Department and The Blueline Club at WiseGuys <http://www.wiseguyslp.com/> Sports Bar and Nightclub, 11 School St., beginning at 9pm Friday, following the tournament action.

Guess I'll know to avoid that place, then. :D

Re: NCAA Semifinal OSU vs SNC

Having seen Adrian play both teams, ....(although SNC was webcast...with the odd tramnsmisson issue)... , I would summarize keys to this game as follows:

A) Offensive skills.............Osw +
B) Team defense*.............SNC++
C) PP............................Even
D) PK.............................SNC +
E) Depth..........................SNC +
F) Goaltenders .................KGT OSW +(.5)
G) Discipline......................SNC+
H) Coaching.....................Even
I) Team speed on big ice ....Osw +
J) Game breaker...... one player....Neil Musselwhite +
K) Home Ice......................East

My prediction>> Oswego 4-2......possibly an ENG.
Team speed and crowd support on the big ice might trump depth and defence in this one.
This is how I see it.....,and I hope I'm wrong.

Crowd support may not necessarily be completely with Oswego. Just remember who the host team is. I guarantee they will have a "few" fans there for the Oswego game.

Re: NCAA Semifinal OSU vs SNC

My analysis was based strictly on their H2H with Adrian, and I realize I'm comparing a January N/C game played in Oswego, to a tournament game played last Wednesday at St. Norbert.

The 4th line you mention may be contributing offensively recently, but they didn't stand out when I watched them.

Adrian played shorthanded for probably 15+ minutes out of the 60 against Oswego and still managed to get 30 shots off, with 6 or 7 good scoring chances.

Musselwhite was clearly Oswego's best player....in both ends of the ice.

SNC had 4 lines that pretty much smothered Adrian's attack allowing 19 shots and maybe 4-5 scoring chances. Then they followed that up with a similar effort against an offensively gifted GAC.

Strong defense and discipline, usually wins.
I'm not sure how SNC's style of play will serve them on the bigger ice surface against a very fast and very skilled Oswego team, so with this in mind I gave the slight edge to the Lakers.

You are correct on the Defense and discipline points. If Oswego can play 60 minutes of discipline hockey especially in the first and third periods they have a very good chance. Oswego's big line of Sellleck, Fox and Laganiere is in a funk, or should I say Selleck and Fox. Both are playing really soft now and show lack of hustle. In the SUNAYC Final and with the Bowdin game each missed easy shots. If the 2 played as hard as Laganiere does, that line would be unstoppable instead of being a liability that they are now. I would cnsider them a so so fourth line right now.

It should probably however, be noted that Justin Fox scored in each of those last 2 games.

That is true but he is playing soft and there is no team work on his part. No back checking, forechecking, any type of defense, and doesn't work the boards. And it has been this way for about a month. The fire that was there during the first half of the year isn't there for either Selleck or Fox. I don't care how many points they are scoring.

Re: NCAA Semifinal OSU vs SNC

Hey OSU Fans...Plattsburgh has an issue with whom to start in net...Leis or Williams?? Not being ignorant here, but Is KGT definitely starting for the Lakers
over Beckwith? Just curious...Thx!!

Emery should just put Rossy in. The Lakers have demolished both Williams and Leis already, might as well see if the third try is the charm.
