Nothing serious here. I Might have had Bowdoin at 3 and Oswego at 4. But Norwich and Utica 1/2 makes sense.

Hobart's loss last weekend really puts the Statesmen in a tough spot.

Pretty discouraging as a Plattsburgh fan (#11). No reason the Cards aren't ranked ahead of Williams (WIN,H2H,RNK), Trinity (WIN,SOS) or UM-Boston (SOS,RNK). That's to say nothing about Oswego (SOS, H2H X 2, RNK). There's got to be an explanation. I only care because I really think the Cards are advancing this weekend and it's very questionable how they could still be ranked so low. It probably means a play-in game if they're fortunate enough to get out of this weekend.

Low SOS and not the best OOC record.

Yes. It's going to be an absolute cluster&*( for the final Pool C slot should Adrian and Norwich win. A Norwich loss makes things pretty simple I would think for Pool C. NCHA loser, Norwich and Utica.

But should Norwich and Adrian win....It looks like Oswego, Hobart, Neumann, Babson, Bowdoin all involved should Oswego and Bowdoin lose their conference tournaments.

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

I agree 100%...there is no reason Plattsburgh should be so low. They are clearly (based off of results and SOS) one of the top 8 teams in the country. I also don't understand what Bowdoin has done to justify being ranked 4th in the country. Since their January 19th win against Middlebury, they have done nothing to justify their ranking.

Jan. 22 5 Southern Maine 1 W NC Box
Feb. 1 3 Amherst 6 L NS Box
Feb. 2 5 Hamilton 2 W NS Box
Feb. 10 3 @ Wesleyan 3 T/OT NS Box
Feb. 15 6 Tufts 1 W NS Box
Feb. 16 2 Conn. College 1 W/OT NS Box
Feb. 18 5 @ Trinity 10 L NS Box
Feb. 23 5 Hamilton 3 W NESCAC Tournament NS Box

They beat a weak USM team. They lost to Amherst who is done playing for the year. Beat a weak Hamilton team. Tie a middle of the back NESCAC team in Wesleyan...who is also done for the year. Beat a terrible Tufts team. Only beat Conn College because Conn needed to win to make playoffs and pulled their goalie in OT. Get smoked by Trinity. And barely squeak by a weak Hamilton team again. Their out of conference schedule has got to be one of the worst in D3 college hockey. The fact that they are ranked ahead of Plattsburgh, and ahead of Hobart, is mind boggling.

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

Hobart behind Babson? Sorry I don't see it. Hobart has to hope for a M-ville win and a Norwich win to have a shot now.

Williams - you might have a point, Trinity & UMass-B are toss-ups, and the answer to Oswego is 1) A significantly better winning %, and 2) A flawless record against all 15 common opponents vs. slight advantages on SOS and RNK. The fact that PSU wins the H2H battle is the result of a 2 goal difference, not some huge chasm between the relative strengths of the 2 teams.
IMHO teams #5 - #15 are separated by small differences, and their inclusion in the tourney will be accomplished by either winning out in their conference, or some subtle difference seen by the committee (and not me).
Could be what you are seeing is the result of a combined 5-4 record when playing outside the SUNYAC?
In the short number of years that I have been watching this process, this is the tightest field from 5-15 that I've seen.

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

Plattsburgh's SOS is better than Oswego's. Osego is way too high and Plattsburgh is way too low. It makes no mathematical sense.
But I will bow to Prof's math every time.

And not entirely due to the fact that I have his seats for the season :D
