NCAA Hockey - 2023/24 **Insert Witty Tagline**

Volunteered at the let’s play hockey expo today at state tourney

- many, many children with mullets, and there was a barber there giving fresh mullets
- met the “on the bench” Canadian podcast guys. Had never heard of them, look like goofballs
-some social media idiot named the green machine was there. He was hours late and seemed like a doosh

Sweep for the road teams in the Big Ten tonight.

Wisconsin 4-1 over OSU
PSU 6-5 over Michigan in OT
Notre Dame 3-2 over Minnesota to get Jeff Jackson his 600th win.

Do postseason 20 min 5x5 OT games still only count the same in the Pairwise as a 3x3 win? I would've thought it would count the same as regulation given it's under 5x5 rules, but the CHN Pairwise calculator listed PSU's as an OT win, which would only give them 2/3 of a road win.

Regardless, good chance Michigan needs a win to stay alive for the tourney. Another loss tonight drops them to 14th. That would already be too close to comfort with the AHA and CCHA both taking up the 15th and 16th slots with autobids, so they'd need no upset tourney winners in the other four. And even without upsets, ASU would be right behind them and have a chance to overtake without a championship.

I’m not gonna link it, cause you can’t read without subscribing to Boston globe. Someone gifted me a link.

They had a big article the other day about how the Minnesota model is crushing Massachusetts model for development. They had quotes from mass officials and USA hockey stating mass hockey is “in trouble”

Thankfully they also added that Minnesota is unlikely to change after seeing how profit above all has ruined hockey in mass. Over 2/3 of the 300 arenas in mn are municipal owned. Which keeps cost way down. They even mentioned that warroads arena is still open 24/7 with the rule that last one out turns off the lights.

Reminds me of a conversation I saw online last year on a different board where various mass amd northeastern posters were incredulous that Minnesota has community hockey and not prep. One guy even said “that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard, playing for your local school” which- my god, just shows how far gone mass is when they think community hockey is for chumps. Are all high school sports just private school all star teams oh East?? That’s so sad. That’s why our state tourney had 20k people in there tonight- because the entire goddamn community cares (and, as the mass officials admitted, it’s part of the reason Minnesota keeps eclipsing in youth and ncaa . And before someone starts yelping, no one is claiming mn produces more superstars- it’s the overall quality and numbers and the filling of the ncaa rosters and the lower costs

The mass officials also tried to say that our weather gives us a huge advantage, which I don’t buy. We’ve had so many winters lately where we get less than one month of outdoor rinks . It’s that our rinks don’t operate on the principal of making as much money as humanly possible

What a wild game. 7-6 final after the Moorhead spuds went up 3-0 in the first 3 minutes.

Matt Cullens son and nephew and Ryan krafts boy beat Stillwater ponies. Gutted for Stillwater as I grew up 5 mins away, but so happy Moorhead won after 8 runner ups.

I also love that John mayasich lived to see his record for goals in a period finally broken. By the son of a gopher great too

Also shout out to the man dressed as Mr potato head in the crowd

Wisconsin was literally four inches from advancing. Had a wide open look at an ENG from inside the circle and missed off the post. OSU goes down and ties it with 90 seconds left, wins in OT.

PSU sweeps UM on the road, so PSU is likely in while UM is now sitting at 14th needs to hope for absolutely no upset auto bids and an early ASU exit.

And we’ll see if the Irish have one more in them tonight.

In the other tournaments, the AHA is providing some Sunday hockey as well. 3/4 series are playing today, including AIC hoping to keep their D1 lives going at least one more game.

CCHA had the home teams sweep except for Augustana. They have a game 3 against Bemidji.

Michigan is 100% out. There are three teams sitting below them in pair wise.

Edit: oh wait QPac jumped them! I thought qpac was below with Hopy Cross.
