That's probably too far away for the official homegrown label. Now if he grew up in the basement of Union College then you're good.

Gophers have very little shot to win...Union is just too good. Minnesota will be lucky to score 1

I see Union winning but who knows? I thought they were impressive two years ago when my team played them in the FF and I think they are even better now. At this point I think they are the better team of the two but in tournament hockey that sometimes doesn't really mean anything when all you have to win is one game. What I think will be interesting is whether this ends up being a high or low scoring game, either way I think the champion wins by at least 2.

That's very nice, and I'm sure he had a liking for Union hockey before he was recruited. That said, whether or not a team's roster has a lot of players who grew up near their campus isn't really relevant to anything other than fun little stories and tidbits about how a player ends up playing for his local college team.

Edit/clarification: It's not like a professional team thriving on its "homegrown talent," when "homegrown talent" means players who came up through their system.

These Union guys, even though they are from a LAC, probably won't understand college-level thinking that would place a positive value on provincialism. They just don't get it.

Union doesn't have any former players in the US Hockey Hall of Fame, while Minnesota has well over a dozen, so Union doesn't have a chance.


And Union didn't help the Allies win WW2, so there is that as well.

If MN takes your mindset they will be blown out. Wilcox will have to play great to win just like Stevens. This game is a toss up. Think it comes down to who can generate on the PP because these are the best two teams in the country. Can't wait
