National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

I'll just say it, just like I did on Tuesday. MN will not lose this weekend. Go big or go home. And MN goes big, baby.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

And Union didn't help the Allies win WW2, so there is that as well.

That should have read, didn't help AS MUCH as UMn did. I'm sure they shot a few Nazis or something? They did prevent Boston Cawlidge from continuing their every even year they win a title bs, so they can't be all bad. :)

Good Analysis .... We both could use improvement in our special teams

Penalty Kill
Gophs 22nd 83.2
Union 27th 82.6
Power Plays
Gophs 16th 20.12
Union 9th 21.82

Scoring last 11
Union Last 11 - 6 Tournament (includes 4 then top 10 defensive teams)
GA 4.182 GAA 1.364
Gophs Last 11 - 4 Tournament
GA 3.364 GAA 1.909

I saw the ND Game - Very impressed with your goalie

NHL Draft Picks 14
NHL Draft Picks 1

If you have a weakness, I can't find it. On the road and neutral you are 12-5-3 and we are 18-3-3

The Gopher's biggest weakness, IMO, is their youth. Second half of the season the Gophers struggled at times to get scoring from their forwards. They were very streaky. That comes with youth. When the Gophers get two or more goals from their forwards, they usually win. That hasn't been easy all the time in the second half.

Much to the thanks of the 1st Minnesota :D

People from every other state who read that same compliment applied to their state thought, "politician." People from Minnie cut it out and put in their scrapbooks.

Small puddle frogs are cute that way.

No idea what this is supposed to mean.

It means, tune on cnbc at 3 am and watch live streaming from house of reps and you have some blow hard giving a passionate speech to an empty house, all so he can send the clip home

they were probably 75th in importance to winning the war

and they were heros who we all owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to...

No dude, they were not 75th in importance. The Battle of Gettysburg is known by ALL, to be the turning point in the war. The Union was LOSING the war going into the battle, and they were losing the battle of Gettysburg until the Minnesota 1st sacrificed themselves, their lives, by charging into the oncoming hoards of Rebel troops, slowing down their charge long enough for all the other retreating units of Union soldiers to regather themselves, turn around and follow the Minnesota First's example, and hence the Battle of Gettysburg was won, and hence the Civil War was won.

They wrote songs about the Minnesota First and its courageous efforts in the Battle of Gettysburg. 75th my ***, much closer to 1st. They may not have contributed the most soldiers to the war overall, but the ones that Minnesota did contribute, made a very significant contribution.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Without the sacrifice of the 1st Minnesota, the Confederates would have taken the high ground on Cemetary Hill, and the outcome of Getysburg would have likely been very different. The 1st Minnesota took over 80% casualties while holding off the confederate advance as they were outnumbered 5-to-1. They filled a big hole in the Union's defensive line and held out until reinforcements arrived.

If the Union had lost at Getysburg, there was nothing between Lee's army and Washington DC. Not to mention, with a decisive victory in the North, the Confederates would have likely received the aid from Europe they were lookong for.

I'd say their regiment's sacrifice was a pretty significant factor in the battle, and thus the war.

But what would we do without Minnesota: The Dairy State?
