Movies: Poor Things, Barbie and Oppenheimer are stuck in La La Land

I mean I know it wasn't meant to be an Oscar winner but it felt a little flat.
- Too many clips of the first film. If you're watching Happy Gilmore 2 you don't need to be reminded of every detail in Happy Gilmore, you probably know it.
- I was trying to figure out how many people got roles because of who they are related to. His wife and daughters. The Please Don't Destory Herlihy kid technically. Margeret Qually technically.
- Bad Bunny added nothing.
- Any scene with Ben Stiller was surprisingly bad.
- I will give them props on the pure number of golfers involved. The "Will Zalatoris as the caddy" bit was well done. Scheffler getting arrested was well done.
- Also Boban as the ex-boss's son was a nice little bit.
- Also did Julie Bowen try to bail out as quickly as she was contractually allowed to?
 
Mookie enjoyed a couple things…
Scheffler was pretty good.
Then was impressed Xander allowed his role to be such an idiot. Good sense of humor in that dude 👍🏾
Other than that 🙄

GREAT concept. Brilliant. And the Cloisters tapestries are a lovely story driver. If you have never seen them go, now, drop everything, and take your brats -- they are so mind-blowing I appreciated them even as a little kid. The Dramaturg gets an A+.

Everything else in this movie was terrible. The writing is abominable, I swear it could be ChatGPT and for once I am not exaggerating. The acting is horrific. The tear jerker character arc, tacked on at the end and then retconned, is laughably stupid. The CGI is SF Channel disaster movie level. Actually, that's exactly what this movie is. Sharknado in the Carpathians. The direction was lousy and the cinematography, given the gorgeous scenery, a failure.

Paul Rudd so obviously did not care and was just taking the check. This was at times amusing, at times insulting, but mostly just made me hate myself for burning those 90 minutes of my life.

Richard Grant has fallen pretty low. This is what happens to Withnail with time and alcoholism, I guess.

Jenna Ortega is OTOH is so ardent and trying so hard, and has such little talent, it is painful to watch.

Tea Leoni, as always, the less said the better.

Will Poulter mugging his way through was at least satisfying that somebody else hated this movie even more than I.

If there was a god this movie would bankrupt everyone involved except the Dramaturg. And Anthony Carrigan, who is wonderful, but who was utterly wasted.

I did not care for it.

Agree with all of that except Bad Bunny, I thought he did a good job. John Daly had like the fourth best performance. Not just in the cameos, but overall. I was impressed by him, but that speaks more to the actual actors phoning it in. The four sons were unbearable.

I thought it was funny DeChambeau, Koepka, and Rory were on the side of traditional golf, when they're all part of ventures challenging it. DeChambeau and Koepka with LIV and Rory being a founder of TGL. But this definitely isn't the movie to be looking for any symbolism.

In the end it was exactly what I was expecting. A terrible movie with fun moments. I don't know why they needed to make it nearly a half hour longer than the original, but I guess that would've been the only way to fit in 75 cameos.
 
Devil at the Crossroads – Robert Johnson documentary. What a fascinating story – not only because of what is actually known about him, but also because of the lore, rumors and speculation. For a man that only recorded 29 songs, he’s quite possibly the most influential musician of the past 100 years when you think about who not only who he directly influenced, but also the musicians that were subsequently re-influenced by his works. Triumph and tragedy with an emphasis on tragedy, with sadly all of the triumph occurring after he was gone. Also a member of the infamous 27 club. One funny moment was Keith Richards mentioning how he somehow managed to avoid that pitfall.
 
Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon.

A rather trippy fantasy film without a plot, but was a good way to pass 1.75 hours on a Saturday.

It was okay. While I agree with all the points of your critique, I am not as scathing on the negative points as your review.

I wasn't expecting a new entry onto the AFI's top 100 films of all times, and I got what I expected. It was still a fun romp, and while I may not watch it on repeat viewings, it was a good waste of two hours.

Although, this did feel like a weaker film by A24. I need to watch Y2K next.

There is a lot of the film that is the perfect homage to the original films to the point of straight up ripping them off. (this is not a criticism they did it on purpose and it made me smile) That is the stuff that works and makes the movie something to see. Neeson is alright but I am not sure if he was the right choice. Pamela Anderson does a great job as the female lead.

The problem is that some of the jokes go on way too long even for a Naked Gun film. ZAZ walked the line of how long to push it way better than literally anyone and so when this film tries it sometimes it goes too far. Not enough to ruin the film but enough to kill scenes or jokes. That is the "why". I feel a bit of better editing and this is an A level film. As it is it is B film which is no shade.

If you like the Naked Gun films go see it. I am glad I did...I just feel no reason to see it again or see more of them.
 
I just came across the trailer for Strange Harvest. Sort of comes across as a Paranormal Activity meets Scream meets Blair Witch. Has anyone seen it already?
