Movies: Poor Things, Barbie and Oppenheimer are stuck in La La Land

Black Captain America existed in the comics long before the movie was made.

Samuel Wilson, known by his superhero alias Falcon, uses mechanical wings to fly, defend, and attack. He also has limited telepathic and empathic control over birds. After Steve Rogers retired, Wilson became Captain America in All-New Captain America #1 (Jan. 2015) and the leader of the Avengers.
Comics are DEI. White males should avoid them like the plague.

As I said, no one but the Marvel fan boys are gonna go to the theaters to see that.

We watched the latest Venom and it's possibly the only MCU movie I wasn't completely bored by for several years.

Watched French Connection for the first time the other night. Had always heard about the car chase, but didn’t realize it was with a subway car 🙀

Last night mookie watched Kepler’s favorite all time movie…Bonfire of the Vanities

When I was a child, my grandparents lived on the lower east side (Knickerbocker Village). My grandfather once took me for a walk by those elevated subway lines, and pointed out this was where the French Connection car scene was filmed. I thought that was the coolest spot in the world.

(I also remember seeing the World Trade Center going up. Each time I visited, it got taller and taller.)

The Gorge. Good idea, well shot, two good primary characters and excellent actors. I was amazed it wasn't based on a video game -- it had that feel to it.

Becomes deathly boring once it just becomes boom boom but for an action movie today it was a laudable effort.

C+ by historical standards. A- for a movie made since 2000.

Busting

1974 elliot Gould & Robert Blake.
mookie loves older movies shot in cities. Nothing beats seedy LA🫣
These two are vice cops chasing a kingpin

That's similar to how we felt about it. Once they went in it became a bit trite/formulaic, but overall worth the time.

I watched the original Space Jam today.

30+ years later, I don't question Ewing, Larry Johnson, or Charles Barkley for the Monstars. I do queestion Shawn Bradley, tho...

My Little Pony: A New Generation

My daughter recently found My Little Pony shoes on YouTube, published there by Hasbro’s media wing. Well, they released a movie with Netflix back in 2021, and my daughter is watching it now. There overall theme of the movie matches the TV shows, but there are some amazing not-so-hidden jokes that hit well for non-Orange Aid adults. In short, they don’t like MAGAt philosophy or the Meal Tram Sixers. While those jokes will skipped right past the kids, the whole narrative fits along with certain scenes that all but say the words. Again, they do it all in winks and nods, nothing feeling out of place or forced. Very well done.

Also, because the movie takes place “many moons” after all the other shows, they brought in some moderately big names to voice the main characters and a few cameo voices.

Jimmy got it right on the Pony shows as a whole, they’re actually well made.

I’m a half hour into Anora

I like it

But so far every scene is stripping and sex

I haven't gotten to it yet. I just assumed since it was Oscar bait, they wouldn't back down from the antagonist's lifestyle choices.
