Movies: Poor Things, Barbie and Oppenheimer are stuck in La La Land

I saw a review that was absolutely brutal. Basically they were cowards about anything that could be "divisive," in a movie about a civil war.

Might the movie be less about the politics/cause of the war as it is about how the average person is impacted, just trying to survive? Not every film needs to declare a political ideal.

That was the gist of the reviews I read. Anyone who was butthurt that a "side wasn't chosen," was just mad that "their" outcome wasn't what happened.

This is how you do it.

She has at least dozens of others that are equally perfect, and the derps just cannot resist.

Well a black woman took the final shot in the movie…how could that not be divisive ;)

went to see the fall guy.
mookie was a fan of the tv show growing up. thought that he wouldn’t like the movie, but mookie did in fact like it and was happy they put the theme song in there even though he knew they would. And Lee got a cameo:cool:

I would strongly recommend Stax: Soulsville U.S.A., especially for any music fans. It's possible that I enjoyed it more than some others might simply because the music is more from my "generation," but it's a great documentary, split into four parts (each about an hour long) and playing on HBO.

It tells the story of Stax Records, the Memphis R&B/Soul music label from the 1960's and early 1970's. Very well done, and a lot of memorable music. It also does a good job of correcting some myths or mistaken beliefs about the label, and its demise.

Very cool hat tip, thank you, I will check it out.

That would have been fine, but it's a message movie about the importance of a free press.

And if it were that way (and believe me that's a far more interesting movie to me) then cut all the politics out. Lose the ridiculous back story of TX and CA seceding and marching on Washington. (That reminds me of the Bloom County where they run Jesse Jackson and Jesse Helms as a "unity" ticket to alienate everybody.)

Has it been out long enough to discuss freely?

I'm probably going to be disappointed, but the trailer for the Netflix produced Beverly Hills Cop 4 looks.... good? Maybe it's the nostalgia talking, but I want to see it.

Also, the trailer for the Amazon Prime Will Ferrell / Reese Witherspoon film feels like a send-up *and* homage to the early 2000s rom-coms, and I can't wait to watch that one as well.
