Movies: Poor Things, Barbie and Oppenheimer are stuck in La La Land

I love musicals, and this looks like it could be good. I am enjoying how the Joker's character has metastasized.

I really enjoyed the social commentary and character arc of Joker in the first film. I think this will build on that and include again the “what’s real and what’s imagined” story line.

It’s so much better imo than the stories that show Joker as crazy but don’t provide backstory or build toward it.

I think Stephen King came up with the idea of Andy Dufresne disposing of the prison wall he carved out, by dropping it through his pants, after trying to empty one of his kids’ shoes of sandbox sand.

Or watching The Great Escape.

The Fascist Dark Knight films used the Joker's nihilism as a strawman for the authoritarian oligarchs of the Dubya Decade to exterminate. The Joker is now the inevitability that capitalism poisons everything it touches, so he become sympathetic. He is a retribution visited upon us for coddling the Ruling Class.

He's the Toxic Avenger for the new Gilded Age.

"You're so analytical! Sometimes you just have to let art... flow... over you."

Agree with everything here. I think the original was more subversive than people give it credit for (media that is). It was as clear an anti-capitalist statement as 1984 is an anti-communist screed (Eric Blair afterall was MI6 and wrote his books under the pseudonym George Orwell)…

I can’t wait to see what “that’s what we should be talking about!” Is referring to!!

I'm watching the "New Planet of the Apes Movies" in preparation of seeing the 4th one this Spring.

I'm starting to think that was a mistake. What a complete disappointment so far.

In the trailer for the new one, human civilization has been destroyed and humans can't even talk anymore, but they still wear perfectly manufactured clothing? Like, not furs or rags or anything, but a t-shirt that clearly needed at least a sewing machine?

The first one was meh; they've been terrible since.

There was no reason to redo it. Just a naked cash grab.

mookie is going to go see civil war tonight??? Worthwhile??? Or waste of time if anyone else has seen already?

I found it got marginally better as they progresses but they're still all terrible. The first one didn't even register at "meh" with me.

Broadway Danny Rose, A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy, Shadows and Fog, and Sleeper, in no particular order.

What was Mookie's thoughts on Civil War? I want to see it but might wait for streaming.

Heard the gunfire was not edited adding to the gritty realness of the film.

I saw a review that was absolutely brutal. Basically they were cowards about anything that could be "divisive," in a movie about a civil war.
