MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

I wouldn't blackball him from work but he shouldn't win an Oscar.

Why? Who gets to decide that?

Mel Gibson is by all accounts horrid doesnt make his movies any worse...everyone is in love with Alec Baldwin today but it wasnt long ago that he was all over the news for how he treated his ex wife and his kid. What about Christian Bale? Where and when do you draw the line...lets not pretend the people involved in many of the movies you love did some despicable things...

Unless there is a morality clause I just think you are playing with fire...

I wouldn't have voted for him. Mel Gibson has had a long road back and I wouldn't vote for him either. I'm not asking for a rule, I just wouldn't have voted for him is all. There are plenty of good people (Denzel for example) to vote for, I don't need to vote for drip slime.

Who gets to decide? Voters. And I guess they decided (again) on the old boys network. Sad.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Is there some sort of a bad inside joke I'm missing with that? I've seen it all over the place.

Re: Steve Harvey, he messed up the winning announcement of a Miss America/USA/Universe/Whatever pageant. So it was just the precursor to last night's miss. The only question is, which has likely been answered already, is whether Warren Beatty was given the wrong envelope or just grabbed the wrong one from the prep table.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

I believe the final act of the Oscars was just that: an Act. Yes, a planned and orchestrated event to draw attention.

I suspect the event officials expected far worse political statements and actions and had the "mistake" set up to be today's talker, and not, for hypothetical example, when Ashley Judd ran to the stage, turned, hiked up her dress, and exposed her bare butt-tocks (thank you Forrest Gump) with

if you don't supply a link, mookie is claiming this never happened

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Kind of on a tangent, but have a question regarding Oscar wins and appeal to the General Public:

Other than Titanic, what other movies are there that were Box Office leaders (general public appeal) while also appealing greatly to the more artistic/technical Oscar crowd?

I think Gone with the Wind is in the top three of inflation-adjusted all time box office, and also won nearly all the top Academy Awards too.

Yes I get that. I thought it was pretty obvious with my WT.F comments around the time the envelopes were opened. :p

Sorry that dog wont hunt. The act didnt help ratings or anything all it did was get people tweeting. That doesnt help ABC or the AA at all...

They gave Warren Beatty the wrong envelope. He announced the wrong best picture winner. It was bizarre.

They incorrectly gave him the card for Emma Stone winning best actress. Warren saw, " La La Land" and while not noticing "Emma Stone" - but knowing LLL was a BP nominee - proceeded.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Gotta love the guy who whines about safe spaces in his signatures complaining about opinions other than his on a show that no one is forcing him to watch.

I didn't watch.
But, I couldn't < bleep > escape it today.
It led CBS Radio news from when I woke up and has been inescapable in media (TV, radio) since.

Beatty said at the mike he saw Emma Stone's name before he had Faye announce it and was confused by it. You're sounding conspiratorial.

Again, not for ratings, for the "talker".

Even the Iranian director that took Trump's immigration policy to task has been overshadowed by it.

That's what they wanted just in case someone went "guano loco" politically.

Conspiratorial? Heckyeah. But it's Hollyweird.

Stone claimed (CBS Radio news report) that she had her winning card. Are there two?

I believe so. I read a write up where there are two copies of every card, worth one person deployed to each side of stage with the briefcase
