MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

I have literally never laughed at the Aristocrats joke, no matter how it's told.

It's not a joke for everyone, to be sure.

And I will admit, I didn't think that "Can We Take A Joke" would bring up such a discussion. Wow. It's a good discussion, mind you, but dam....

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Yeah, still don't get it. Carlin did "vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity" far better than anyone else has since.
Can't argue with that statement.

The Aristocrats....it's a comic's joke. It's so ludicrous, and you can't explain WHY it's funny, really. You either get it, or you don't. And there is no wrong answer to it. That's the beauty of humor. There is no right answer. :)

Fair enough.

I do love me some "Incomplete List of Impolite Words" though. :D

This will sound weird, but here goes.

It's joyful. It's exciting and fun -- it's pure play. It's the epitome of not being an adult and watching what you say. It's capturing what it was like (or what we think it as like) when we were very young -- as in 5 or 6 -- and acting utterly spontaneously.

For comics I think it's like compulsory figures in ice skating -- it's a test of craft: how original can you be, for how long can you keep it up without being repetitive and boring.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Did that dad protest, heckle, make a sign, disrupt the performance, start a campaign, try to get the comedian black-balled or fired - or did he simply exercise his right to leave? Not saying he wasn't an idiot for bringing a kid to a comedy but this is not a really good example at all. :)

He yelled at the comic which started the whole thing. He completely disrupted the performance as a heckler. The father has no one to blame but himself.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

I'd never heard of it before today, but I watched Midnight Special. I think it was pretty good. The last half saved the movie.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Watched Ted 2. Like Ted, it was far better than I thought it was going to be.

Michael Dorn and Patrick Warburton smashing the nerds at comic con was fantastic.

Really? I couldn't stand Ted, minus the "name that girl" scene (which was beyond hilarious; I was in tears). I'm not a Family Guy fan, though, and I've heard that's a big key to these movies.

The girl scene, NSFW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UTnE6DVLq0

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

That makes me laugh...a lot. (must be in bad taste ;) )

I cant wait to see that movie I have heard nothing but great things. The GF is going to see the author speak and sign the book somewhere in town.

I think I've mentioned this but my dad was closely involved with the Apollo program. I'll watch anything involved with that, including the raw footage of the command center. I only wish somebody would overlay the metrics from the various department reads.

We landed on the f-cking moon and returned safely. That is human race achievement #1 so far, then a HUGE gap.
