MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

The written works dont exist anymore...Disney burned them all ;) (in the original canon Luke is the Last Jedi until he re-opens the Jedi Academy)

To me this sounds like (again) they are just aping the original trilogy where Luke is now Yoda...off in hiding the last of his kind. He will then train Super Saiyin Kenobi Daughter to help the Republic defeat Diet Vader Solo and the Empire. :) She will probably even turn him after she makes sure he dies :p

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Beat me to it. Odd title given there's E9 left but I have no idea about the progression of the movies relative to any written works.

All the written works published prior to September 2014 are no longer canon. Star Wars: A New Dawn was published as precursor to the TV show Rebels, and that book reset the canon. While Disney has taken a large chunk of the old books and added them back into canon, they're mostly little things that flesh out a world or universe, like Han and Lando are experts at playing sabacc (a card game), different types of aliens that so far have only shown up in the TV shows, and things of that nature. They've reintroduced old characters too, but those characters have had their backgrounds changed some so as to fit in with Disney's new narrative and ability to make more money off of the existing properties.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Even Marvel who has stayed truest to Canon to their benefit has taken liberties in both the TV and Cinematic Universes. I like what Star Wars is doing and I like what Marvel is doing. They're making good movies with good plots.

All one has to do is think back to Episode 1 of Star Wars or Ben Affleck's Daredevil to remind oneself what used to be. Thank God that crap is done.

No argument from me.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

And see I get bored by it rather quickly. When you can pick out the story beats 5 minutes before they happen it takes me out of the movie. I mean it is still better than the Prequels...but you dont get points just because you made the same movie with different scripts. (something Disney is known for accross the board)

I also know I am waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in the minority on this one. (obviously since Disney owns the Box Office by leaps and bounds) As much as I liked Force Awakens when I saw it the farther I get away from "The Theater Experience" the more I realize I really didnt care for it that much and I am not really super hyped for "The Last Jedi". I want to be, and I will see it most likely but I am not sure it would make the Top 5 if I had to choose. I dont see it covering any new ground and if I want to watch a movie try and be The Originals I will just watch the Originals.

I honestly dont go to movies that often anymore anyways so when I do go I have to be highly motivated.

I certainly hope the plan for 7 was to set the stage for something different in 8 when comparing 7/8 to 4/5. I accept 7 as a good movie but basically a retelling of 4, if they just retell 5 again, they will lose me.

Even I will be disappointed if they follow your mock (pun intended) script below. That being said what is available now is 3 billion times better than what was the staple before.

I severely doubt they don't do something surprising in the next film. It will be different.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Apparently I didnt delete fast enough...

It is not my intention to rip on the Star Wars movies (or the Marvel films) and I know it comes off that way. That is why I tend to stay silent about it.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

I will follow it through to IX in hopes that they can make a better series concluding film than VI was.

I like that when you're watching VI, and if you'd not seen the first two, you're not sure who the good guys would be in that movie for perhaps the first 45 minutes to an hour. It opens up with the hero Rebels going into some guy's palace, ordering him around, trying to extort a favored wall decoration from him, and then blowing up his ships and house staff. It's not until Luke makes a pit stop with Yoda that you get the idea that the Rebels are actually the good guys! Until then the movie starts with bad guys trying to hustle other bad guys and instead just wind up killing their marks.

Lets not forget he murdered the Rancor!!

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Vi is fine if you ignore the f-cking Care Bears.

VI annoys me because they built another effing Death Star. It's like Lucas didn't have an original bone left in his body.

That was my biggest complaint about VII as well. "Another super weapon with a fatal flaw? Ahahaha, the bad guys NEVER do that."

And you would think, at some point, the Empire would train their troops on how to hit a target ;)

In A New Hope, Kenobi tells Luke about how highly accurate the stormies are with their shots. "And these blast points, too accurate for Sandpeople. Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise." The only answer to that is they're taking a dive for the Rebellion! :D

Obviously accuracy has a different meaning in a galaxy far, far away ;)

I love the conspiracy theory that the entire rebellion is just a tiny cog in a much bigger wheels-within-wheels imperial strategy, so they have been bending over backwards to get the rebels to win. And even with all that help the rebels are so incompetent they keep almost blowing it.
