That’s my generation too! A small timeframe but we def don’t fit into x or millennial neatly

I said to a zoomer coworker that one of the fun things about That 70’s Show was seeing kids have fun just sitting or driving around, because I could identify with that. He looked at me all puzzled, “Didn’t you go to high school 20 years later than that?!”

Generations are defined by a certain number of common experiences, driven by either cultural and/or world events or technical shifts. I was born in 1977, and my father was a supercomputer engineer, working on the giant machines you walked into in order to service them. I grew up with a 8088 computer in the house, with an auburn monochrome monitor from 1982(?) until 1993, when we got an Acer 486 computer with Windows 3.1 loaded.

That said, the computer tech wasn’t central to my life, more of a distraction on the side until sometime in high school when I started taking classes that made more and more use of word processing programs - MS Word was not the ubiquitous option just yet.

Kids born a few short years later had a very different experience on the tech front, but still shared a fair amount in regards to social life. I know their schooling was different as something called “pods” had been introduced for keeping kids together pretty much the whole school day rather than
meandering from class to class with a completely new set of kids in each class.

Lol

As for the bottom part, you might be right. There are an infinite number of ways to classify generations. Temporal, events, writing, culture, technology, etc. I think there are good arguments for many of them.

From their takes on reddit, GenZ is the only generation I have any respect for.

Because your generation failed to parent them correctly?

Yes. My generation is far and away the worst parents, and I hope everybody has permanently learned that negligence combined with snowplowing produces offspring who are emotionally distant, frightened drones.

GenXers actually seem to have parented much better, since GenZers are (1) uncontrollably angry and (2) imaginatively perverse. This is a good sign, and I hope they butcher all the rest of us in our sleep someday. Birth years 1945 - 1995 richly deserve it. A half century-long cul de sac.

"Urge to kill rising..."

I dropped a reference to "dogs and cats living together" on a work skype chat and none of 19 people recognized it. Millenials are terrible.

I made the "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" joke in a Twitch chat with almost 1000 people. Got lambasted for not knowing it was the Japanese... Then I explained it was from a movie and no one knew the movie. One guy said, "It couldn't have been very good since I've never heard of it."

This is why workplace shootings happen...

Likewise, they had no clue what "Going postal" meant...

killed time on the flight watching…

equalizer 3 - eh
indian jones dial movie - double eh
transformers beast thingy - triple eh

so next leg stuck with godfathers 1 & 2!!

I rewatched John Wick 3 and it just isn't very good, I'm afraid. I have not seen 4 yet. I grade the first three as A, B, C.

3 has the least story but is cookoo bananas fun. 1 is by far the best but honestly 4 has the second best story.

Splurged on a 4k Blu-ray player on a great Black Friday deal, so needed some movies to watch on it.

The new Dune movie was wonderful. Exceeded my expectations(and PTSD from the Lynch film) Can't wait for part 2.

Titanic was spectacular. I had fallen into a blase, knee-jerk condemnation of it over the years of having it play on TNT or FX practically every other weekend. Have to admit, I got a little weepy watching it. 4k transfer was gorgeous, picture was incredible.

The original Blade Runner is a terrific viewing experience in 4k. That increase in detail and lighting that HDR brings was truly a revelation. And Atmos surround sound was amazing.

Usual Suspects was also incredible due to the better lighting and details. Too bad the director and star are such despicable scumbags. Also too bad that you can never duplicate that first-time viewing experience with this film.

Got a bunch more to go through. Blade Runner 2049, Heat, the Harry Potter series, Jaws, 1917, Dazed and Confused. Also, the player is great at upscaling, so regular Blu-ray also looks incredible. Working my way through the DC Legends of Tomorrow TV series, and after that, Northern Exposure.
