Movies 2026: Shame and Money

Coyote vs Acme scored huge at the domestic box office over Labor Day weekend, earning another $16M ($12 Friday-Sunday) and will in fact reach profitability within the theatrical window thanks to that $20 million foreign distribution deal.

More just fantastic news for WB: The new Tom and Jerry cartoon movie opened to a whopping $265,000 this weekend in 850 theaters. I wonder if any of the executives at HBO/WB learned anything from the disparate box office performances of the film they tried to bury and the one they released. Probably not.

Watched "Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die" last night. Trippy as heck. Really holds a magnifying glass up against current things in regards to AI and our collective obsession with social media and technology. Starring Sam Rockwell doing Sam Rockwell things and just being amazing.

I was watching Murnau's Faust and fell in love with the actress playing Gretchen. She was a kid who got her big break when she filled the role when Lillian Gish wasn't available. Her name is Camilla Horn and she may be the most beautiful actress of all time (just nosing out Louise Brooks).

You decide:

But I stumbled upon a fun fact about Horn: Springsteen wrote a song about her in 1972, which he did not release, but he did do a demo tape.

I had no desire to see the new Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe movie, but now that Christian Nationalists are crying that Meryl Streep is the voice of Aslan, now I have to go.
It’s directed by Greta Gerwig so most white dudes are going to scream about it because they are so tough and strong you know.

I might see it just for Ciarán Hinds, he’s awesome. Also has the lady that played Dedra Meero in Andor!

Tolkien thought Narnia was swill.

Lewis' writing is overheated, obvious, cringe tripe, except for The Discarded Image, which is pure poetry. He was an excellent and nuanced bookish academic who should never have quit his day job to become a derpy apologist and polemicist.

Chesterton was a bloviating fool, but at least he could write.

I read the Lion, The Witch... when I was 10 or so and thought it was purely a fun fantasy. I guess you were way ahead of your time at that age.

I meant his apologetics. I haven't read his childrens' books. But you knew that, you were just looking to be snide and personal as usual. Not sure what you get out of the ad hom bit, but you be you.
