Zoolander > Dodgeball

Though I don't know if a Zoolander sequel 15 years after the fact is a good thing.

Please teach me how to say "I refuse to play your Chinese food mind games." in German.

Way to put me on the spot for a project from 13 years ago... :p

I believe it's "Ich weigere mich zu spielen ihre chinesischen psychologisches Spiel."

It's mostly came about so my buddy only had to memorize "und dann?"

We are both friends with him, and by his own admission, his German is kindergarten (hah!) level.

That makes sense. Ask Ralph, maybe. My German is some 17 years old now, didn't get past second year in high school, so WPOS probably speaks better than I can now.

He said he gets hung up on the specific everyday stuff, for lack of a better term, slang/regionalism.

"So, he like, said he kind of likes her, but doesn't like-like her."

In German: "He is fond of her, but doesn't care for her in that way."

That sort of thing. The little things that shape the current language.

The Killer Inside Me:

Small town sheriff appears to be all around nice guy, real polite-like, and all. But he's not. Slower movie, some pretty disturbing scenes (not visual, necessarily). It's not quite full noir, which is why I kind of liked it. I'd recommend it.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

I really enjoyed Spectre -- the first Bond movie I have liked since Casino Royale. Semi-spoilers in white so please do not quote:

1. No more pretentious, overbearing M sub-plot -- I love Dame Dench, but she was grating and ponderous as M
2. Spectacularly lovely Bond girl
3. Elements of actual humor for the first time since Moore
4. Great effects
5. Great locations
6. Interesting plot -- more mystery story than thriller, much like the early Connery bonds
7. Good secondary characters for the first time in a LONG, long time
8. I really hope Silent Hombre isn't dead -- he has Jaws/Odd Job potential
9. Blofeld now has an origin story, best portrayal since Telly

Paul:

Kind of funny movie. Two sci-fi nerds come across an alien on the run from the Feds. Lots of homages/nods to other sci-fi movies. It has its moments. It's Frost/Pegg, so take note before watching it. I found it to be worth my time, but nothing more, nothing less.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

You are categorically wrong. One of the funniest stupid movies ever.

I agree with Kepler on this one, and that happens about as often as the second coming of Jesus Christ, so you know we're right. Brent, you're just flat out wrong on this one.

I thought it was incredibly bland. Well done bland. But anything interesting quickly falls back into the well worn routine and I kept thinking about how much more enjoyable the last Mission Impossible was over grunty Bond getting into several girls faces and them immediately falling in love with him for no real reason.

Opening scene was wonderfully shot even if it wasn't a single long take.

Finally got around to watching Million Dollar Baby.

What a friggin' gutpunch. NOT what I was expecting, and kinda buzzkilled my night. Jebus. Excellent movie, mind you, but...man.

Yeah, that's one you watch when you've just been feeling too good about things for too long.
