Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

Low expectations is the dividing line. Dodgeball for example doesn't fit because we had expectations of it.

Movies like Eurotrip or Down Periscope or PCU just have that WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot vibe.

That's a good way of putting it.

But they're also funny, something that is missing from far too many "comedies" these days. Dodgeball, for example, other than Rip Torn, isn't really all that funny. And maybe the car wash scene. "High and tight". Has it's moments, but it's a bit uneven. Ben Stiller just isn't funny.

That's about the only movie I can stand Stiller in.

Zoolander is great. Stiller is unwatchable in almost everything else (Dodgeball and Blades of Glory are OK).

Zoolander sucked balls. And Tropic Thunder was worse. Haven't seen Blades Of Glory (not inclined to see it, either).

Speaking of dumb funny movies, Happy Gilmore is on TBS right now. Some classic lines from that one.

Stiller isnt in Blades of Glory...thats Will Ferrell and Jon Heder

I absolutely hated Zoolander the first time I saw it. I've grown to chuckle at it quite a bit over the years. Still not great, though.

One of my favorite awful movies is Joe Dirt. Cripes I love that flick.

I can't believe I just remembered this one:

Dude, Where's My Car?

Great Saturday Afternoon Killer.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

Spies Like Us also dabbles in the "double-u, tee, eff" silly Saturday Afternoon time waster.

Circle:

50 people are in a room, dunno how or why, or who even got them there. 1 gets to live. The 50 have to choose who lives. Go. Very good moral dilemma movie, it was more like a play, given the setting/budget. Highly recommend.

Were you dropped on your head as a child?

Would it matter? Those movies were putrid. And obviously, my tastes are all over the board, and I like dumb movies as well as Oscar winners. These two...they should never have been made.

Zoolander sucked balls.

You are categorically wrong. One of the funniest stupid movies ever.

I forgot two wonderfully funny stupid movies: Superbad and Dark Star.

"The building would have to be at least.... three times that size!"

Zoolander was great, and I'm excited for the sequel. It helps that I work with people who would fit Zoolaner's and Hansel's knowledge of computers, so my buddy and I would quote the "The files are IN the computer" line when something really dumb would come across our desks.

Terrible. I never thought I would see the day where people are defending Zoolander.
