MLB 2024: robot umps, please

Either a sick joke or letting him get one last win to break the streak, the White Sox fire Grifol following their series ending loss in Oakland.

He finishes 89-190, which puts his third worst among managers with 250+ games.
 
Dodgers/Angels did the same thing in June, Sunday off for both teams following a 2-game, Friday-Saturday series. I haven't looked at schedules, but I wonder if other teams have done it with their two game series against their "rival" from the other league. It is weird to have a Sunday roll around and your team is off.

I went to a random spot in the broadcast where they mention the Twins would play 164 games that year because they had two games end in ties and have to be replayed. Some research shows that they tied the Tigers 5-5 and the Yankees 1-1, both games ended after the 9th due to rain. Maybe the rule was different back then, but neither game was the final game of the series, it seems like they should have been able to suspend the game and restart the next day rather than replaying in its entirety.

I watched for 5 minutes and there was at least 25 seconds between every pitch. I get that old people can't handle the crazy speed of the current game, that anything has changed in 55 years, or that you can't go to the bathroom every 10 minutes and not miss anything, but now you can go to a game and not have 95% of that time be actionless.

Box score shows time of game took 3 hours and 3 minutes. MLB average in 1967 was 2:37.

For the record: MLB average in 2023 was 2:42 and the seven Twins/Red Sox games were: 3:07, 2:37, 2:40, 2:50, 2:37, 2:53, 2:15 for an average of 2:43

You have it backwards. Old people LOVE fast games. We remember when 2.5 hour games were normal, and the constant stream of in-PA ads drives us crazy.

One of the consequences of living through Late Stage Capitalism is we are accustomed to more enlightened, less feudal times. If anything, it's the young who have been trained to accept their servitude who are the dull-eyed, sedated Hindu cows. Just one more downstream effect of being in a time when history is being pushed backwards up the river.
 
Tigers walk-off the Yankees in Williamsport, I think because sending the runner was so shocking the left fielder double clutched because he didn't even think Detroit would try it.

No, and it seemed like a way worse choice than sending Jung earlier in the game when he was out by six steps (but it looked like Jung stumbled a couple times). I’m glad they won, but even without that I’m glad they pushed it to extras so they didn’t lose 1-0 on a pass ball.

Not sure if the wind was blowing in or if they brought out dead balls, but no one had any power last night. Nothing close to the warning track, even hits with pop were ending up as fly outs 50 feet from the fence.
 
MLB announced the teams for next year’s game in Williamsport: Mariners and Mets.

Those poor, poor children.
 
Eh. They're so in the zone I'm sure it's basically subconscious at this point when it comes to drowning out noise.

For sure. That and Judge was hounded by every kid in the Little League complex as soon as the bus got there. And other Yankees spent time with the team. Not really sure what caused the coach to go off specifically on Judge.
 
Danny Jansen will catch for Boston against Toronto on Monday in the continuation of a suspended game. Jansen played for the Jays during the start of the game, so he will become the first ever player to play for both teams in the same game.

And he will be catching his own at-bat. He was down 0-1 in the count when the game was suspended.
