Host Brewers Drop Pivotal Game 5, Now Trail Series 3-2
Game 5 was big. So was David Cone.

The New York 1988 starter rose to the occasion at County Stadium today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Mets to a crucial 7-1 victory over the Milwaukee 1982 Brewers. Cone threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball as the Mets won on the road to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Cone was effective for New York 1988, seldom allowing the Brewers to square up a pitch. The right-hander tossed 98 pitches over 7.2 innings. He limited Milwaukee 1982 to just 1 run on 4 hits.

"David did a tremendous job," said New York 1988 manager Jim Smith.

Game 6 is set to be played Saturday at Shea Stadium. Slated to start are Don Sutton for Milwaukee 1982 and Ron Darling for New York 1988.

50 years ago today, Dock Ellis threw a no-no while tripping on LSD.

Not sure what's the greater feat? Ellis while tripping on LSD or David Wells while drunk?

Brewers Clip Mets 4-3 in Playoff Contest
The Milwaukee 1982 Brewers and the New York 1988 Mets will take their series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Brewers beat the Mets 4-3 at Shea Stadium to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Milwaukee 1982 right-hander Don Sutton was named player of the game in the win after he threw 8 innings allowing 3 runs.

Milwaukee 1982 used the bat of Ben Oglivie to get the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Brewers ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Oglivie. "And not try to do too much."

Game 7 is set to be played tomorrow in New York. The scheduled starters for the game are Pete Vuckovich for Milwaukee 1982 and Dwight Gooden for New York 1988.

It's the end of the senior league as we know it.

@Haudricourt: Pending MLB agreement reportedly includes DH in NL for both 2020 and 2021. Then comes new CBA which almost certainly will include it. So, NL is a DH league now.

MLB, through general arrogance and greed of its ownership, might end up lucking into their best outcome, cancellation of the entire season.
