Re: MLB 2020: We'll Play Ball, I Guess.

Here's what I have for seeding of the 16 team 1980's tournament. Opinions welcome, as its tough to do from a combo of stats/memory/nostalgia.

1. 1984 Tigers
2. 1986 Mets
3. 1981 Dodgers
4. 1988 Mets
5. 1981 Yankees
6. 1989 A's
7. 1985 Blue Jays
8. 1987 Tigers
9. 1983 Orioles
10. 1988 Dodgers
11. 1982 Angels
12. 1985 Royals
13. 1982 Brewers
14. 1980 Phillies
15. 1987 Twins
16. 1982 Cardinals

I didn't take the 88 A's because I felt like that was the same team in 89 essentially.

Re: MLB 2020: We'll Play Ball, I Guess.

Tells me I did at least a reasonable job of ranking them.

I would say so. Your top 4 are all top 7 per ELO. Your bottom 3 are all bottom 6 per ELO.

Biggest differences:
1983 Orioles (7 spots higher per ELO)
1982 Brewers (7 spots higher per ELO)
1989 A's (5 spots higher per ELO)
1981 Yankees (5 spots lower per ELO)

You didn't include the 1985 Yankees (they would be 5th per ELO), the 1987 Blue Jays (7th per ELO), or the 1983 White Sox (T-8th per ELO).

Ball is back into the owners court.

Game 1 Victory for Gooden and New York 1988
The New York 1988 Mets started the playoff series in style today, downing the visiting Milwaukee 1982 Brewers at Shea Stadium by a score of 4-1 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Mets right-hander Dwight Gooden was named player of the game after he threw 9 innings of 8-hit ball.

Gooden allowed 1 earned run on 8 hits over 9 innings for the Mets. He walked 1 and struck out 5.

"There was a kid in the stands with a sign that said 'New York 1988 Mets (probably) World Series Champions'," Gooden told reporters after the game. "I told him, 'Premature, but I like the confidence.'"

Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow in New York. The scheduled starters for the game are Don Sutton for Milwaukee 1982 and David Cone for New York 1988.

Re: MLB 2020: We'll Play Ball, I Guess.

redsox made some odd trades....

cooper was traded for bernie carbo and george scott. boomer was ok, but old. only functional for a couple season.

carbo in fact was traded to the sox twice. once for reggie smith, then again for cecil. those are two solid players. granted the sox were set in of for some time if they could have kept rice-lynn-dewey together. yaz moved to 1b/dh. so cooper could have done the same, but all lefthanded hitters (reggie, cecil, yaz) and back then they loved right handed hitters with the wall.

Based on how they actually pitched in 82. He didnt start either playoff series.

Didn’t start ALCS because they were 3 up on Baltimore with 4 to play heading into the doubleheader against the Orioles the final Friday. Vuckovich was tabbed to finish them off. Also pitched deciding game 5 of ALCS so couldn’t start WS.

Strawberry, Mets Sink Brewers Again in Game 2
With right fielder Darryl Strawberry leading the charge, the New York 1988 Mets defeated the visiting Milwaukee 1982 Brewers, 8-4, in Game 2 of their playoff series today. Strawberry went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once at Shea Stadium to help New York 1988 take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Making an impact for the home team was David Cone. In the bottom of the sixth, the 1994 Pitcher of the Year Award winner had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. That made the score 5-3, Mets.

"The rain was definitely not preferable," Strawberry said. "It worked out fine I guess, but we'll be happy if we see the sun next time."

Game 3 is set to be played in Milwaukee. The scheduled starters for the game are Ron Darling for New York 1988 and Pete Vuckovich for Milwaukee 1982.

Yea i understood the WS one. I obviously didnt dig through regular season to guess a managers decisions.

But he's still lined up to pitch twice if needed.

I also already know the outcome of the series. I play them all at once so that i get series MVP and cumulative stats. Just saving the outcomes for maybe 2 posts a day. So it's not overwhelming to read.

Mets Hammered by Molitor, Drop Game 3 to Brewers
The Milwaukee 1982 Brewers have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading New York 1988 Mets, winning 11-6 at County Stadium today. Brewers third baseman Paul Molitor was named player of the game after he went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The win cuts the deficit facing the Brewers to 2-1 in the best-of-7 playoff series.

The Brewers took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Facing New York 1988 hurler Ron Darling with two outs, Molitor hit a 3-run home run.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Molitor.

Game 4 is set to be played tomorrow at County Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Dwight Gooden for the New York 1988 Mets and Moose Haas for the the Milwaukee 1982 Brewers.
