...

But, I guess its wait and see on the pitching staff. They have to go out and sign a #1 AND #2 starter in the offseason. Not sure how any of the guys are going to come any cheaper than Lester would have.
I'd rather have kept Lester as well, but it's not clear to me that was possible, at least after they started out with a low-ball offer. On the other hand, it's clear they need offense also, and if you look at the combination of the farm system and the available free agents, there's more pitching available than there are bats.

I like what Oakland did. They're constantly retooling their roster since they can't afford anybody. Might as well try to win now since either way they're be doing an overhall in the offseason anyway. I'll say again though I'm not sure they're getting by Price-Scherzer-Verlander-Sanchez even with Lester.
Agree on getting by Detroit, but I'd also say their chances are a lot better. I also like that the fact that the RS and the A's had the cojones to pull the trigger seems to have panicked the Rays. They should have gotten more for a player of Price's stature. For an interesting, flawed, player signed through 2015, the A's got John Lester. For one of the premier pitchers in the game, also signed through 2015, the Rays got some spare parts and an 18 year old shortstop.

Cespedes not in tonight's lineup.

so why was the pirates game allowed to end the way it did? that is something that can't be reviewed? it's not like the pos 2nd base ump is in position to rule properly there.

Anyone surprised??

since the beginning of 2005, nearly 13% of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball games have been Red Sox vs. Yankees

An arm going up like that is common when someone goes into a slide... What would make it interference is any kind of secondary movement that impedes the fielder's ability to make the play... There was no secondary movement towards the ball... The arm just goes up and doesn't move... All legal...

Also, the runner was still within an arms length of 2nd base, so the takeout after the throw was legal as well...

:)

I didn't ask for logical replies ;)

No, they want people to watch. That's not a surprise.

You know our Buchholz ace of the staff quips from a few days ago? I can hear the ka-chings in free agent starting pitchers' wallets now.

Guys got a 9.00 ERA in his last 22 innings.

Cardinals fans.

Then shouldn't Missouri be a Cub hatin' state?

Though I have a hankerin' that between the 2004 and 2014 WS there's a good amount of hate for Boston in St. Louis, especially when the Cubs have been a non-threat.

Exactly.

I'm just wondering why Wyoming hates the Cardinals and the NW Territories in Canada hate the Padres. It's obvious the Nunavuts loathe the White Sox because of Hawk Harrelson.

Looks like Andrew McCutchen may be out for a while. Thanks, Kirk Gibson.

The NW Territories probably hate the Padres because they get 80 degree weather year round.

Who can hate a man who's "Dagnabbits," "You can put it on the BooooOOOoooOOOard! Yes!" and complete silence when his team chokes away a lead can so eloquently describe a game.

I especially enjoy watching Tigers and Twins games with Hawk making the call. :D

I'd like to know why Australia hates the Dodgers so much when the rest of the world unanimously hates the Yankees. The Dodgers gave them Vin Scully holding a koala!!! How can you hate that!?!

Also, wildly off topic but LLWS regionals are going on right now. The Oklahoma team lost all three games by a combined score of 67-1, including an 18 run inning in one of their games. They earned one hit (not even the same game they scored their only run in) and had 19 errors. Pretty amazing that's the best team Oklahoma has to offer. Maybe they all focused on that new 50/70 division making the LLWS division second class.
