You're all wrong. It's Dennis Eckersley. I mean, the guy already works for NESN.

The National Weather Service issued a warning because of the high winds to secure the Swan Boats. Don't bother, because they've already been traded to Houston.

Our old friend Bruce Ciskie joked that as part of the Miller trade, Baltimore gave up MASN and the Red Sox sent them NESN.

Do you know how much of a mess MASN is in? Angelos own it but is supposed to fork over ownership % to the Nationals.

The Asbestos King is fighting that tooth and nail.

I would assume some intern will be fired for this.

What was that? Link doesn't exist

What was that? Link doesn't exist

Looks like they deleted it.

It was a side by side picture of an abandoned building in Detroit and a beach in Tampa Bay with the caption somewhere along the lines of "Don't worry Rays fans, you still have it better!" I'm surprised it took an hour for them to take it down.

Deadspin captured the tweet... and Detroit burned Tampa Bay back:

I've been an A's (and Sox) fan for a long time, and I thought Oakland might get into the Lester sweepstakes, but only because they have a ton of prospects. Really surprised they let Cespedes go. While I like the rotation, I still worry about their ability to get by Detroit.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting a superstar in return for rent-a-Lester, but I'm not as sold on Cespedes as some people seem to be. He doesn't hit for average, has some power, but has never hit more than 26 HRs. Doesn't seem to have a lot of speed (which may not matter much in LF at Fenway). I hear folks talking up his potential, but he's not 23. He's in his prime right now, he's had plenty of time to adjust to MLB, and over his three years, his trajectory is flat to slightly downward.

Maybe he'll turn into a monster at Fenway, but right now Lester strikes me as the better player, and it isn't close.

edit: fixed quote problem

From the Cherington presser this evening, with Vic on the sidelines (possible DL), Cespedes to RF and Craig in left. X to SS and Middlebrooks to 3B.

The relevant question is: Are two meaningless months of Lester worth more than one year of Cespedes?

Nope. I don't think it's a terrible deal. Just surprised that so many (not necessarily USCHO) are claiming it's a bad deal for OAK.

I'm not sure I'm glad that Henry and Cherington are blowing it up so thoroughly, but at least they're doing it now...

It's certainly an unusual trade for a contender. Usually, the contender weakens its future to strengthen its present. But Oakland gave up part of its present. At least it gives me a team to cheer for now. I'd love to see Lester on the mound for a WS win. He's a quality kid (though I guess he's not a kid any more, and that's the problem).

I'm not thrilled about blowing up the team either. Sox seem like SF has been, win-awful-win-awful-???, over the last few years. I would have signed Lester and kept Lackey while shipping out some of the minor pieces (Drew, Gomes, Peavy, Dubront, Miller) as needed. Certainly the Drew deal allows them to see the Middlebrooks-Bogarts tandem at work for a few months.

But, I guess its wait and see on the pitching staff. They have to go out and sign a #1 AND #2 starter in the offseason. Not sure how any of the guys are going to come any cheaper than Lester would have.

I like what Oakland did. They're constantly retooling their roster since they can't afford anybody. Might as well try to win now since either way they're be doing an overhall in the offseason anyway. I'll say again though I'm not sure they're getting by Price-Scherzer-Verlander-Sanchez even with Lester.
