Reminds me of a situation this year in the Ohio state high school hockey championship game. After 6 or 7 OTs, the game was called a tie and the schools had to split the state championship.

As a distance runner, I appreciate the Japanese version of determining high school champions better. It gives these hockey and baseball players a small taste of what it's like playing a real sport.

Bo Porter fired in Houston.

Ball hits in to ivy at Wrigley and the Cubs manager comes out to discuss it being a ground rule double?

Prevented the Cubs from scoring on the play, but still. Cut the ivy if you don't like your home ground rules.

Ron Washington resigns.

Old? Didn't want to come back next year with an awful team (that won't be too awful with the injured players back)? Rick James syndrome?

If you don't try and get it, it's a double, right? I think if you try and get it, it's every man for himself.

I think that is the rule, but am not sure.

That is the ground rule particular to Wrigley. If the ball disappears in the weeds, throw your hands up and don't look for it and it is a ground rule double which is a dead ball, go in and dig and it is a live ball and whatever happens, happens.

Twins emailed me to announce their 2015 schedule today.

I guess 2014 is over.

The fastball up and inside got away from Fiers, hit Stanton square in the cheek. Bled pretty badly in the batters box and was taken off by the ambulance cart.

What a sh**show that developed on the sequence of plays that followed. Calling Stanton's HBP a strike, and then Fiers trying to throw a fastball in the exact same location and missing (again) hitting Reed Johnson, and Johnson subsequently being called out on a swinging strike (while being hit in the hand).

*edit* And the Fish just threw an inside pitch that hit Carlos Gomez in the elbow(pad). Gomez calmly took first base and the Marlins pitcher promptly ejected.

Latest on Stanton:

"@Haudricourt: Marlins announce Giancarlo Stanton has multiple facial fractures, dental damage and laceration that required stitches."

Thankfully, no surgery is required (as of now). When I saw it happen, I feared the orbital was broken and surgery would be needed.

I also believe the fact that it was mostly dental means he's now an honorary Florida Panther. :D

D-Backs fire GM Kevin Towers.

I'm surprised he didn't order Kirk Gibson to have one of his pitchers throw at the guy who fired him. I really hate the D-Bags.

As for Stanton being an honorary Panthers, does mean he gets moved to Quebec in a few years? It would be a heck of I'm sorry for the return of the Expos. :D
