Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!
Actually, it would be the smart thing to do. There is no room to expand or renovate the park in such a way to make the free loaders on the roofs happy.
With how landlocked the ballpark is, they can't do a renovation similar to Lambeau. If that was possible, I could see them cantalevering suites and a new second deck on to the park.
Also, the clubhouses and "batting cages" need to be renovated badly.
Rosemont already offered up the land for a new ballpark and entertainment district. They already have the first land based casino in Chicagoland, and they're building up that area next to O'Hare as quite the destination. Easy access to the spaghetti of tollways, airport, and L service (Blue line), would make the Rosemont Cubs a hot ticket.
People don't go to Wrigley to see the Cubs. People go to Wrigley for the social atmosphere and to see the tourist trap.
The team needs a new home. Be it one block over from their address, a complete gut of the current address, or at the far northwest end of the Blue Line.
If they gutted the place, they may be able to do the majority of work through one season. They'd just have to swallow their pride and play "home" games at the Cell or Miller Park that season.
