Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

If the 100 game suspension happens, we won't be seeing A-Rod as a Yankee ever again.
Lawyers will get involved. Courts will get involved. George Costanza will get involved. The legal bills to MLB and the NYY may be > than what is owed ARod.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

The thing I like the best is that he seems to have no idea he's getting near the wall until he runs into it. Dumbass.

In other news, the team I root for continues to pay Rick Ankiel to play baseball in 2013, so maybe I shouldn't be making fun of anyone.

Guess who's afraid of walls now?

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

So with the latest round of PED speculation, it seems that MLB is finally getting serious about this... I have to wonder how long much longer MLB will allow their name to be dragged through the mud with this issue... I really have to wonder if names like A-Rod and Braun getting 100 games will get the message through, seeing how pervasive PEDs seem to be in MLB... Anyone think this could reach "Joe Jackson" levels if it keeps up?

MLB is going to need an airtight case with all the i's dotted and the t's crossed and then they need to triple check. Otherwise, MLBPA's lawyers and the players' lawyers will poke enough holes through the case that nobody will know what the truth is.

Not guilty <> innocent.

Nope, it's still a witch hunt in an effort to "catch those fish that got away."

A-Rod already admitted he took years ago. Back during the Mitchell Report. Braun passed every test since his MiLB days, except for the way out of whack test that was thrown out. Milky Cabrera has already served a 50 game suspension, and now he's going to get slapped with 100 games double jeopardy style.

Pretty sure the MLBPA will destroy the MLB if suspensions are levied.

I'm thinking MLB is saying 100 games, but will "settle" for 50 (second offense), or whatever the first offense is. You know, to show that they are super serious, but the union is blocking some things.

I was under the impression that Braun's was only thrown out because the tech kep the sample in the wrong fridge overnight. And that being in that fridge could not have produced a positive result. Regardless, it was because of a technicality.

The level of naivete in this is staggering. I'd explain why, but I suspect you have little regard for the truth since nothing you allude to has anything to do with what any of the players of question might have been doing recently. I'm also going to assume you know very little about the science of doping as well as the specifics of the MLB testing policy that is as close to as farcical as it comes in terms of actual being able to catch people. Granted, the highly limited structure lies at the feet of the union and not the league, but it's highly ineffective nonetheless.

I'll also assume that you gleaned the term "witch hunt" from the former Lance Armstrong acolytes, which says enough in and of itself. You'd be better off if you just admitted you are one of those who isn't overly concerned with reality and will rationalize this and future related events away in whatever manner is easiest for yourself. Regardless, you might not like it, but take it to the bank that whatever Bosch decides to spill will be completely accurate. All the information is already out there if you know where to look.

Pretty sure the MLBPA will destroy the MLB if suspensions are levied.

This much could be accurate, but speaks solely to institutional and legal machinations than it does to the actual activities of the players in question. The irony is that if the union actually cared about those it claims to represent it would throw these guys and any like them to the wolves. Suppressing reality amounts to not only not protecting those it represents who do not partake in such things, but also an implicit endorsement of the activity. If you were aware of the extent of the products that some are willing to put in their system, which you clearly are not as the names of many are completely unknown to the public whose base of knowledge is the mainstream media - for now, you'd also know that the long-term health impacts of many are horrible at worst, bad-but-we-don't-know-how-bad at best. It might take decades, but someday this will be talked about in the same manner the NFL's disregard for head injuries in the 70s and 80s is starting to these days.

The fact the union might use legal linguistics to shield these guys and might come out on top of litigation dependent on intricately worded contracts has very little if not nothing to do with the culture that is high level athletics. And not to just beat on the MLBPA, be assured it's not just baseball -- it's across the board. Worldwide.

Ultimately it's too bad that some people are unwilling to admit this considering how widely available the information is, but I guess that's what happens when people have a need to find emotional comfort in something like sports. The power of rationalization is strong.

Correct. The chain of custody was the point of contention and it was, correctly, thrown out because the handler was a lazy idiot. However, that has nothing to do with the fact the sample was loaded with a substance that does not spontaneously propagate -- and wouldn't do so if you let it sit in the trunk of your car for six years. As usually is the case in these matters, the chain of custody is always the target legally as it's not only by far the easiest part of the process to botch, but it's also by far the easiest to attack legally. That's why it's always the first item to be assailed in the case of any scientific sample, be it doping or otherwise. And in the case of doping, it's the only item that can be assailed since the client is guilty of the rest.

Washington must've been smoking something other than his trademark cigarettes, tonight.

Texas pitcher threw 2 pitches that counted. Gomes doubled and Papi's walk off. Efficient.

Rangers-Blue Jays went 18 innings and the Mets and Marlins are in the 19th at Citi Field. Only the second time that's happened in MLB history with the last being in 2006.
