Dempster gets 5 games and an undisclosed fine.
I thought he had to buy him a soda after the game. The amount of the fine:
"You made Girardi come out and he hurt the ump's feelings. Buy him a milkshake."

You know Toe Blake? No?
The way Dempster's been pitching, he could use a game off anyway, and the Red Sox may not even need him because of all the days off. One thing baseball's never figured out is how to do suspensions for starting pitchers.Dempster gets 5 games and an undisclosed fine.
He'll start serving tonight and probably start against the O's next Tuesday, if he gets to start. Can he appeal like ARod is appealing? Because that would be RIDICULOUS if he has to miss games and ARod is playing.
Yes, Scarlet, any MLB player can appeal any suspension he is given, and then play until the appeal occurs. The players association deemed it to be so in their CBA.
For pitchers, they try to time it for their starts (if applicable).
Broke his jaw and will likely miss the rest of the regular season. Not that the Braves need him the rest of the regular season, but that really sucks.Jason Heyward just took a pitch (fastball) to the face from Jon Niese in the Braves/Mets game.![]()
Morneau already cleared waivers so the biggest hurdle has already been cleared. Plus the Twins never ask for anything in return.
Maybe the Twins will get another relief pitcher they can cut next March.I think Morneau to the Pirates trade talk is going to heat up again. Garret Jones and Morneau would normally be about the same player and there is no reason to trade, but Jones is in a terrible slump, and not having a great season at all.
If the Pirates lose a couple games and fall out of first place I can see them pulling the trigger on a deal. Morneau isn't that expensive, so their owner and GM won't balk too much at their payroll going from like 65 mil to 71 mil.
Jones (Season): .239 Avg, 11 HR, 42 RBI, 90 K, 28 BB, .295 OBP, .409 SLG, .704 OPS
Jones (August): .122 Avg, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 12 K, 7 BB, .228 OBP, .245 SLG,
Morneau (Season): .269 Avg, 15 HR, 72 RBI, 92 K, 33 BB, .322 OBP, .434 SLG, .756 OPS
Morneau (August): .303 Avg, 7 HR, 19 RBI, 18 K, 3 BB, .326 OBP, .618 SLG

From da internets...While Jones would be the perfect encapsulation of the Twins 'Sell low, buy high' philosophy, I doubt they'd get that much in return for a Morneau rental. More than likely, I think it will be a longshot minor leaguer and an agreement to eat more of Morneau's salary.
Also, can Morneau control where he goes at all? I could see him not liking the NL since apparently the position that Prince Fielder can play every day is just too physically demanding for Morneau.
Although he does not have 10-5 rights that guarantee him a complete no-trade clause, the Twins are expected to respect his wishes and only trade him if they have his blessing.
