MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

I'm not a Yankees apologist, but the umps really should've let CC dot one the BoSox and then warn the teams. . .
Agree in the typical case, but to me this was so obvious that Dempster should've been tossed immediately. Would have done the Red Sox a favor, the way he pitched.
Really don't think Girardi should've gotten run either.
I don't think he should have been tossed for coming out and arguing, but we don't know what he said, and that arm swing came pretty close to striking the umpire. And I wonder if he actually wanted to be tossed. CC looked bad in the first inning, and he shows ARod that there's at least one person sticking up for him. Whatever Girardi may think of ARod, he needs him for the remainder of the season.

So we can all agree then that there is no suspension for this guy, right?? He's not suspended. He's playing. He's playing a lot. He's helping his team win. His team is doing nothing but welcoming him back, needing him for a run at the postseason, of which I fully believe they will be participating. If they ever get around to hearing his appeal and act on it and he officially gets suspended, will these wins have asterisks next to them? No. So, let's cut the crap about the longest suspension ever because he's never going to serve one day of it. He'll probably play full time the rest of the season and them retire.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Agree with you that Girardi has to stick for A-Rod. Him playing well will be the only hope the Yanks have of getting in. I do think Ellsbury, Pedoria or Ortiz is going to wear one the next time the two teams play. I wonder if Girardi said the "magic word: to get himself run. (See Bull Durham for a reference.) And you are right about him probably wanting to get run.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

I really don't care what the BoSox and the Yankees do to one another, or if ARod gets plunked every game from here on out. It all makes for good theater. The Yankees won yesterday's game, are 7 - 3 in the last ten, only 7.5 games back, and I think mostly healthy.

You AL East followers will know better than me, but in each of the last 2 or 3 seasons the Yanks have been about 7 or 8 games back around the end of August beginning of September and made the playoffs. Wouldn't put it past them this year. Would rather see the Orioles make it though.

No way he retires and leaves that much money behind.
He's got too big an ego to do that.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

For those of you with Sirius/XM subscriptions, they have added live play-by-play of all games. CH. 211-220.

As for the yanks, I don't see us catching and passing no less than 4 of the teams ahead of us for a wild card berth. Too little, too late. It would take a Dodgers-esque run, and several Red Sox-esque choke jobs.

About time. I used to work in the email department for Sirius and that was always a major headache after the merger. Surprised it too so long.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

John Kruk calls Dempster's actions a disgrace. Uh, no John, the disgrace is the 1200 pound gorilla in the league you and most of your brethren in the media are too naive and/or gutless to address. Since the league does the bare minimum and the union is as useful as a case of cancer, the players starting to police it themselves is more than welcome to me.

And yes, Dempster should have been tossed since it was so obvious and took multiple attempts, but I still have no problem with what he did.

Ding ding.

I've always respected Kruk. He's so far off on this.

Well, I don't know when it was implemented, but they did have it available for online listening only. So, technically, the option was there, but it just isn't all that practical.

He's got too big an ego to do that.

He and the Yankees will reach a settlement to pay him a portion of his contract to just go away. Then he'll retire without ever serving a day of his suspension.

How do you figure?
With the comments his lawyer has made about the Yankees and MLB colluding to try and end his contract or playing him when he was hurt to try and end his career, I don't see the yankees negotiating anything.
I also don't think his ego would allow him to just walk away when in his mind, he can still play.
If he does retire, and manages to get a good portion of his contract anyway. then he's pulled off the ultimate troll on MLB but I think he is way too me-centric to walk off without fighting and "coming back" from what they give him.
I think he'd try to show MLB and the Yankees up by playing after his suspension.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

I've always liked him. Not sure why, but then again, I haven't watched Baseball Tonight in ages so things may have changed.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Kruk was right about Dempster. If you wanna hit the guy do it, but don't throw one and miss, then throw 2 balls that didn't seem to be aimed at him, although inside and then when its 3-0 try to hit him again.

Dempster should of just thrown a 2nd pitched at him right away if that was his intent. Either way, he should of been ejected for intentionally throwing at him. It was pretty clear neither was "accidental".

We all know what's going to happen in the first game of the next Yanks-Red Sox series. Someone on the Sox is going to get plunked for sure.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Girardi wants Dempster to be suspended. Yeah, I'm sure MLB will get right on that. Hell, they might give him a medal and word is Scott Cashman is already on the phone to his agent to offer a 4-year deal...

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Given the way Dempster pitched the rest of the game, he really should have been ejected.

Did Kruk talk about a couple nights prior when Strausburg threw behind Andrelton Simmons... twice?

Ha! Yes. I want to know how he got to be the one to hit him.

Saw a quick blurb on the news that ARod is now suing the Yankees team doctor. And a news scroll that said his lawyers are saying the case against him is so weak that he won't have to servce one inning of his 211 game suspension. Uh huh. Figured. He hasn't served one inning yet. Why start now?
