Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

I'm guessing that even he will have a tough time getting tickets to that game, but he'll probably have a better chance than us non-season ticket holders will. Regardless of if I get tickets, I'm planning on spending Friday afternoon/evening/night in downtown Minneapolis. The pre/post and even during the game atmosphere down there is incredible. If I can get tickets, that's even better. I believe that Friday night was the night when a bunch of us were planning on spending the night drinking in Minneapolis anyway, maybe head over to Gasthof's at some point.

That night is shaping up to be awesome. I can't wait.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Today is Albert deadline day - noon. One number being thrown around is 10 years/$300 mil. Seems a little long for a guy who's 31 and plays in the NL, even if he is the second coming.

A guy who says he's 31 is different than a guy who actually is 31.

So Miguel Cabrera was busted for drunk driving. But wait, it gets better.

Allegedly (because it's always allegedly) he not only asked the cops the infamous "Don't you know who I am?" he emphasized his importance by drinking in front of the cops.

A model citizen all kids can look up to.

He also responded with the classic "Do you know who I am?"

Depending on how he was busted, not necessarily a bad move (the bolded part).

If he was pulled over while driving, then clearly stupid.

If he was in a one-car accident, then he just might have created reasonable doubt as to whether he was drunk at the time of the accident or just got drunk afterwards.

Looks like that won't work

A deputy in a police vehicle alongside a road in Fort Pierce spotted the All-Star player in car that's engine was letting off smoke. Inside the vehicle, Cabrera smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and took a swig from a bottle of scotch in front of a deputy, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office said.

Since he didn't take a breath test, the technician would not be able to corroborate his BAC at the time of arrest.

So my roommate's brother is one of the lucky few that will get to purchase Sox/Yankees Opening Day tickets at face value. I may be going!

Also. I want a jersey. Are the Authentic ones REALLY worth an extra hundred bucks over the Replicas?

The best way to decide is to put one of each on at the Pro Shop and see which you like better.

I definitely prefer authentic when it comes to hockey jerseys. I am not sure how baseball ones stack up as I only own one and thats an all-star one.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

It's a sad day for me....Gary Sheffield officially retired. :( ;)

Matt, don't think I was just going to let that little tidbit slip by. ;) Don't worry, just because he is retired doesn't mean he will shut up. He's already campaigning for the Hall (and wants to go as a Marlin, which he said will "always be his first team" - should we be offended? I guess I'd rather not remember, too. :))

Will he get in the Hall? The numbers would say yes. The numbers also say being a jerk doesn't keep you out of the Hall (not forever, anyway). But the voters have shown that steroids affect their votes.

I found this interesting - http://riveraveblues.com/2011/02/remembering-the-sheffield-era-43340/ - I'm waiting for someone to write a Milwaukee retrospective, or maybe LA :D

I am incredibly excited for this season and its only the 2nd day of P&C. I might even watch pre-season games. Which are only slightly more of a sport than the NFL Pro Bowl.

I was wondering if you missed Garry's announcement. I figure you would be the first to post on it! ;)

And you're right. He won't stop running his mouth. IMHO he would make a great addition to Sunday night baseball on ESPN!!!! :D

I think he gets in the Hall.....eventually.
