MLB 2011 Part 1

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Someone needs to go wake up the Rangers and tell them the postseason has started. Ugh...

I don't think it's a reaction only to this. He's been there a while, things have stagnated, time to move on. No knock on him really, just a change of scenery for everyone.

It was only eight years, two of which were championships. Also, things stagnated for a MONTH. A month with no pitchers.

The T-Mobile girl needs to eat a cookie or two, and hold them down. She'd be quite attractive if she wasn't a 95 pound twig.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Overreaction, table for one? Overreaction, table for one.
I don't think Tito wanted to manage a bunch of overpaid jackholes who weren't listening to him anymore. No one in the organization will name names, but I'm willing to say I think it was Ortiz, 'Tek and Beckett, with Lackey and A-Gon also troublemakers. I've seen Wakefield's name tossed around, but that guy would literally do anything for this team so I don't see him being a clubhouse cancer.

Imagine Francona goes to the Cubs and somehow ends that drought as well? Small chance of that happening, but that would be some remarkable managing...

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Unless the Cubs hire a competent GM (which they haven't done for at least 75 years), there's no chance of that happening. Casey Stengel with John McGraw and Connie Mack as bench coaches aren't getting that hot mess past 80 wins.

I've literally seen reports saying three different things--that he left on his own, that it was a mutual parting, and that he was fired. As a Sox fan, ownership shouldn't be making managerial decisions. They should simply decide the fate of the GM. IMO, Theo Epstein deserves the boot for his numerous blunders. At that point, allow a new GM to determine what to do with Francona.

Hendry was more than competant; how quickly people forget 2003 when he treated Pittsburgh like their AAAA team or 2008 when they had the best record in the NL. It wasn't his fault they choked in 2003 and the best offense in baseball disappeared in the playoffs in '08.

That said...it'd be great to see the Cubs steal Theo away from Boston.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Question-why did they even start the Yankee game last night knowing that the rains were coming and would last for hours? Wasted two of the top starting pitchers who now sit on the shelf for a number of days. Who does this benefit?

Be funnier if tonight gets rained out too. 40%+ chance of rain tonight.

The weather guessers only gave it like a 50-60% chance of intermittent showers. Apparently that meant 100% chance of downpours. It wasn't raining at the start of the game, so it would be silly to delay a game because "it looks like it might rain later and we don't want to waste these two pitchers because it's likely to be a great matchup."

JF, don't say that. I'm actually pretty worried about tonight being cancelled as well. I wonder what they do then, doubleheader tomorrow? Push EVERYTHING back another day? Yikes, hope the baseball Gods are not angry tonight.

Actually, it happens more often than you'd probably think. I've seen plenty of games delayed when it wasn't raining. This year was the most recent with the Twins delaying a game because of massive thunderstorms rolling in.

They had to not be watching the forecast carefully enough-we are about 75 miles south of them and it was pouring here for a couple hours and moving north before the game started. I could understand better if they felt they could get in 5 innings or more-but it seemed like they were just starting this one to satisfy TV and all the commercials they had sold. I just wonder who benefits more-Detroit or NY? MLB has already announced no doubleheaders in the playoffs-gosh forbid they should give the fans that kind of treat. As a kid I thought nothing ever could be as great as going and sitting through a double header.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

For what they're paying for postseason tickets, they're not going to give a game away. I'll have to look at what my postseason tickets were in 2006, but it wasn't cheap.

EDIT: I was in the next to last row of the upper level at Comerica Park for the 2006 postseason. My tickets (each) for ALDS, ALCS, and World Series: $50-$90-$190. And that was 5 years ago.

Paid $30 for the NLDS in Philly in 2008, standing room only. Would have been great "seats" had those in seats in front of us been sitting, but since they stood also we couldn't see much.

Sat through a Cards/Phils DH in Philly once in 1989 that had rain delays in each game and a rain delay between the two games. Got out of the Vet at about 3:00 a.m. and first pitch in game 1 was at 5:05.
