Re: MLB 2011 Part 1
I hope the playoffs are as dramatic as the end of the regular season was. Just some ramblings on each team. I am sure someone will correct me, as I don't claim to know every fact about every team.
Rays @ Rangers - (Texas in 4)
- Rangers have kind of been on cruise control and under the radar as they won the West. The Angels never really pressed them when they had the chance in Aug/Sep.
- Tampa expended a ton of energy just to make the playoffs. So it will be interesting to see if there is an early let down, which in a short series on the road spells trouble.
Tigers @ Yankees - (New York in 4)
- The Yankees starting pitching after Sabathia seems vulnerable, which seems odd to say when they just won 102 games. Thats just how I feel about them. But the Yankees can hit, and have a lights out closer. As well as a ton of playoff experience, if you believe that has an effect.
- The Tigers will go as far as their bats take them in the 1st round. They should be able to throw Verlander twice if the series goes long. If you assume he is his Cy Young self, then the Tigers should only need to muster a few runs in those games to have a chance at winning. Don't ask me how Valverde was perfect in save ops this year. I have no idea.
Cardinals @ Phillies - (Philadelphia in 3)
- The Phillies don't always hit as much as you think they would, but they don't need to. They have the deepest starting rotation I think I have ever seen. If they don't make the WS, this season is a waste for them.
- The Cardinals, much like the Rays had to press hard just to be here. They also had to use their ace pitcher in game 162. In a short series I just don't seem how they can match up in the pitching department. They could be down 2-0 before they see Carpenter again.
Diamondbacks @ Brewers - (Milwaukee in 5)
- The Brewers have been fun to watch. They have a ton of personality, and some legitimate MVP guys in their lineup. If they hit like they can, they will go deep in the playoffs. Adding in the combo of Greinke and Gallardo in the starting rotation is enough to make them serious contenders for the WS.
- The Diamondbacks are the biggest surprise of the season to me. They looked like nothing to start the year, and have a rookie head coach. But Ian Kennedy has been fantastic and they have had clutch hitting. Plus they have a trash talking PbP guy.
