Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

I think the real solution here, instead of moving Houston to the AL, and having an odd number of teams in each league, is to add 2 more teams to the AL, so they both have 16 teams. ;)

Las Vegas and New Orleans get teams. 4 teams in 4 divisions per league.

Ok, I'm just kidding with this one.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

It seems like Houston to AL West or Arizona to AL West, Houston to NL West makes the most sense for this shift but throwing away divisions seems really dumb to me. Do 6 five-team divisions with winners making playoffs and 2 wildcard teams. the 2 wildcard teams play one game to decide who gets to play the #1 team...and get rid of the can't play division rival in the Division series...so then based on this last year would be:

American League
Wild Card (1 Game)
Boston (5) vs New York (4)

ALDS (7 Games?)
Bos/NYY vs Tampa Bay (1)
Texas (3) vs Minnesota (2)

National League
Wildcard (1 Game)
San Diego (5) vs Atlanta (4)

ALDS (7 Games?)
SD/Atl vs Philadelphia (1)
Cincinnati (3) vs San Francisco (2)

Actually, a much better solution with only the 4 division winners making the playoffs.

Caveat is that you only play in your division in the final month (6 series). No lead should be safe.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

That is a wonderful box score with some great names: Bill Buckner (7 RBI), Dave Kingman (6 RBI), Pete Rose (4 RBI), Mike Schmidt (4 RBI), Larry Bowa (4 Runs)...

That game is great because every person I have ever known from Chicago claims to have been at it, but attendance was only 14k. :)

WGN used to replay it on New Year's Eve for people jonesing for baseball.

The best part of that line is that the Phillies starting pitcher Randy Lerch hit a home run, and then only mananged to get 1 person out in the bottom half of the first.

Day 1 of 5 touring some Northeastern ballparks.

(This was my first time watching a baseball game at Fenway. I did go to the Frozen Fenway event, though.)

Saw the Sea Dogs romp. Scored a game for the first time in forever. Lots of fun.
