Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Gary Carter has 4 tumors in his brain. Not sure if they're malignant, but this doesn't sound good at all.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

I don't need a 15 minute weather warning interrupting the game on Fox, when 2 minutes would have done the job.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

It took me five innings to figure out the Cubs uniforms said Cubs with a giant rectangle for the C instead of being sponsored by UBS.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

So when will MLB get serious in their investigation of Bartolo Colon and this mysterious surgery he had in the Dominican? It's absurd that he's all of a sudden throwing 94+
As soon as they figure out what Jose Bautista is on.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

So I was watching baseball games on my cell phone last night as I was sitting at Target Field. First time I had tried it, and was plesantly surprised that it didn't instantly eat my entire battery. The onscreen graphics (score, player panel) can be a bit hard to read, but after a minute or two the game itself was pretty clear.

Also surprising that I was able to do anything with my phone at Target Field. Usually you can't even send a text message.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Jorge De La Rosa started the first game of a doubleheader today for the Colorado Rockies. De La Rosa left the game in the third inning with soreness in his left elbow. An MRI revealed a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament. He will undergo season-ending surgery and is not expected to pitch until at least this time next season.

A great April and a horrible May for the Rockies.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Question: Yesterday, the Red Sox - Tigers game was called off after the top of the eighth. The score is being reported as 14 - 1. I thought that when a game was called, the score reverted to the last complete inning, which would make it 9 - 1. Anybody know the story here? I can't believe that if, say, the visiting team scored in the top of the inning to make it 2 - 1, that they'd call it an official game when the home team hadn't gotten to bat.

The Rules:

If a game is called, it is a regulation game:

(1) If five innings have been completed;

(2) If the home team has scored more runs in four or four and a fraction
half-innings than the visiting team has scored in five completed half-innings;
Rule 4.10 to 4.11

(3) If the home team scores one or more runs in its half of the fifth inning to tie
the score.

(d) If a regulation game is called with the score tied, it shall become a suspended game.
See Rule 4.12.

(e) If a game is called before it has become a regulation game, the umpire-in-chief shall
declare it “No Game.”

(f) A League President may determine whether rain checks will be honored for any
regulation or suspended game that has progressed to or beyond a point of play
described in 4.10(c).

Rule 4.10 Comment: The Major Leagues have determined that Rules 4.10(c) and 4.10(e) do not apply to any Division Series, League Championship Series or World Series games or for any additional Major League championship season game played to break a tie.
4.11 The score of a regulation game is the total number of runs scored by each team at
the moment the game ends.

(a) The game ends when the visiting team completes its half of the ninth inning if the
home team is ahead.

(b) The game ends when the ninth inning is completed, if the visiting team is ahead.

(c) If the home team scores the winning run in its half of the ninth inning (or its half of
an extra inning after a tie), the game ends immediately when the winning run is
scored. EXCEPTION: If the last batter in a game hits a home run out of the
playing field, the batter-runner and all runners on base are permitted to score, in
accordance with the base-running rules, and the game ends when the batter-runner
touches home plate.

(d) A called game ends at the moment the umpire terminates play, unless it becomes a suspended game pursuant to Rule 4.12(a).
