Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Here we go again. Joel Sherman of the NY Post saying the Yankees are "close" to acquiring Lance Berkman from Houston.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

cashman is just trying to get a lower price for dunn

Berkman has waived his 10-5 rights, deal will be done tomorrow afternoon. No word on what the return will be. A couple players were mentioned, but someone else is saying that it could be non-prospect minor league players. Apparently it's a straight salary dump for the Astros. Berkman will be the new DH.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

does berkman project as type A or B? how does compensation work after they buy out his contract for next year.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Joel "Look at me, I can type" Sherman says the deal is a fait accompli. Well, he would, if he knew what a fait accompli is.

Sea error puts a man on with 2 out with an error and Thome goes yard following Sea leaving the bases loaded in the top of the 2nd. :D

Type B but neither the Astros nor the Yankees were/will offer him because he'd probably take it. He's not nearly worth 8 figures anymore.

well he wants to be bought out from his contract that would pay him $15M (presumably because he wants a multiyear deal instead). so i'm not so sure he would accept arbitration.

He won't accept it, he wants to go back to Houston.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

not really sure what there is to be happy about in philly.. you traded away lee only to trade back for oswalt and give up one of your best pitching prospects in the process.

Happ isn't a prospect anymore, he's almost 28, his ceiling has been reached. The Lee trade was incredibly dumb, but after hearing idiots call in and whine about it every single day on the radio, I'm just glad Amaro didn't stubbornly stick to what he had.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Cubs and Dodgers talking swap of Lilly and Theriot for who knows from the Dodgers.

Knowing Hendry's prowess at these trades, The Dodgers would win the comparison regardless.

LADodgers get: Lilly, Theriot, and Cash Considerations (mostly Lilly's salary)

CHICubs get: Who knows but it would probably be Blake DeWitt, an overrated fireballer pitching prospect (no control but he can throw near 100mph... aka the Hendry prototype pitcher), and a Single -A or AA infielder (who odds on won't ever make it to the majors).

I don't think the Cubs' ineptitude is about payroll or personnel or even managing any longer.

The Cubs will never succeed with the front office they currently have in place. Poor corporate culture. Poor drafting, poor development plan.

Cashner is on his way to being another used up burned out young fireballer because they rushed him to the majors like they did Prior, Samarjdizna (sp?), and so many many others.

The Cubs are also getting interest about Gorzellanny.

Right now, I'd take offers for just about anyone on the team except Soto, Colvin, and Marshall. Yeah, I'd trade Castro if the deal was right. I'd trade Marmol too.

Castro is good at the plate but he's a trainwreck defensively. Thank God for DLee at first or he'd have double the errors he already has, which has to be the most by far among rookies at ANY position. He's 8th in the majors in errors with 14.

Everyone is calling for the Cubs to clean house but they're cleaning the wrong house. They should clean out the front office first.

White Sox are pushing for Manny.

Rays and Angels also have asked about Manny, but if he is going anywhere today, Chicago seems to be the front runner. The Yankees have also been mentioned in the talk as well.
