Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

We now join YES Network coverage of the death of George Steinbrenner, already in progress...

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

It's amazing that we spent a good chunk of the last day discussing the business practices of the Yankees, and this morning Mr. Steinbrenner passes away.

Yeah, I know, we've got comments in the Yankee thread and the "Dead" thread, but this is big enough for all three threads, in my mind.

Sad day for baseball and the Yankee organization.

R.I.P. the boss

I'm sure Steinbrenner got a nice welcome into heaven from The Voice.

"Now coming into heaven, the ownah, George Steinbrenner, the owner."

RIP George and Bob.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

He knew how to play the system, anyway. And he got the results he wanted.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

A Deadspin reader has observed and captured a pull-quote in a Steinbrenner biography currently airing on YES:

"I will never have a heart attack. I give them."

Oops.

Mattingly will fly his hair at half-sideburn.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

So are we going to be able to hear the Bob Sheppard recording Jeter brought with him as a tribute tonight when he goes to the plate, or is Joe Buck going to talk over it with his bland commentary?

Dollars to doughnuts that Joe Buck will talk over it.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

From the sound of all the filler, community service garbage, and the annual 7-minute-long-anthem, I don't think we'll actually have baseball until about 8:30.

BTW, whose idea was it to have that inane Disneyesque theme playing during the lineups? The ASG lineups are one of the all-time great traditions, but this cut-rate field of dreams crap has got to go.

I'd make it 8:45. Charlize Theron, so hot.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

I'm not going to hate on community service recognition.

But I will hate on any other filler that is not lineups and the national anthem or recognition of other ball players/owners/caretakers of the sport.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Last night I went ape**** over the pregame concert. Tonight I have no such concerns regarding the pre-game music, because it actually relates to what they are doing on the field.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Let's hope some jerk Mets or Red Sox fans don't ruin the moment of silence for the Boss. Love him or hate him. (I'm still mad him for trading Jay Buhner. That's why I like Seattle.) you have to respect him.

EDIT: I apologize for that omission of the word don't

"O.J. Simpson...not a Jew. But guess who is? Hall of Famer Rod Carew..."

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Wow...those are some great keys to the game:

NL: Use your pitching staff.

AL: Best line-up in years...Use it.

Thanks for that great piece of insight:rolleyes:
