MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

SportsNation just recreated the Buehrle play in studio. I guess I am not as impressed if a guy in a suit can do it on the first try.

But its still a nice play.

I guess the first question I have is why in the world were you watching SportsNation?

The second question I have is the speed of how they recreated the play. Was it a slow motion walk-through, or live speed?

Plus...did the ball ricochet off his foot first like it did with Buehrle?

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Walk-off for the Rays two batters after missing a walk-off HR by about a foot.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Gotta say, I am very unimpressed with Dick Enberg so far.

I know he's trying to fill some impressive shoes in Matt Vasgergian, but he really is brutal.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Miggy Cabrera clinks one off the foul pole in right field with 2 out in the 9th to get the Tigers tied 1-1 with KC. In extras now.

Dare we ask why Detroit was trailing KC on a night when Greinke wasn't pitching?

It was about 46 degrees out and the wind is blowing hard in from left field. That and Hochevar pitched a helluva game for KC. If that kid develops he's going to be a good one.

That and goofy **** happens when the Tigers play KC.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

If the playoffs started today (using runs and road wins for ties).

Oakland @ Tampa Bay
NY Yankees @ Minnesota

Philadelphia @ San Francisco
Atlanta @ St. Louis

See, even 3 days into the season and the Twins draw the Yankees in the ALCS. :(

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Umpire Joe West thinks the Red Sox and Yankees are "disgraceful" for how long they take to play baseball.

West, who was the home plate umpire for Sunday's game and served as the crew chief for the three-game series that ended yesterday, said, "They're the two clubs that don't try to pick up the pace. They're two of the best teams in baseball. Why are they playing the slowest? It's pathetic and embarrassing. They take too long to play."

My counter to this is, maybe Joe West shouldn't suck at his job so badly.

Not a Joe West fan, but when the average game is still around 3 hours and a typical Yankees-Red Sox game is 3:45...well, he might have a point.

Except for Oakland, that all looks possible. :)

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Anyone else been following this whole Joe West vs. Yankees/Red Sox thing?

Personally I think Joe West is DEAD ON. The Yankees and Red Sox are horrible when it comes to game times.

Now Pedroia and the Red Sox fire back:

http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/mlb/news/story?id=5071970

Mariano Rivera said, "What should guys do, swing at balls?"

Schilling actually had a pretty good diatribe about it too (stunning, I know).

In short, Joe West is a lazy POS umpire that would do his job from a recliner if he could.

Which is true, except for the part where he's right. The Yankees and Red Sox DO have embarrassingly long games. Nearly an hour longer than the rest of the league.
