MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Really? Name one other instance where you remember the guy running on the mound?

You always see the guy run around the grass behind the mound even though its quicker and more direct to run on the mound.

How many times did you run on the mound when you played?

All the time. Also I stopped playing baseball when I was 15. The "unwritten rule" is a joke and doesn't exist. Point of etiquette? Maybe. But to say you "own the mound" is a crock. Braden is a psycho.

Sorry, maybe you uncouth types in upstate missed it, but SoCal definitely said not to go on the mound. Maybe its regional. :D

I assume since there is an unwritten rule about slapping the ball out of the glove and yelling at a guy while rounding the bases to distract them you're also defending A-Rod for those as well. No rule, no hate.

(Yes I know the rule said A-Rod was out for slapping the ball out, but no rule that got him ejected or fined for the dishonorable act.)

In news that actually means something:

Ryan Howard signs a 5 year, $125 million extension with the Phillies.

But, you know, the Yankees are what's wrong with baseball.

Extending != free agent signings.

But yes, this deal is stupid. The money isn't the issue, its having him signed for his age 32-37 seasons.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Sure, he's a dick for the first two things. But for this? Not a chance. Saying what he did about it is a pretty fair reaction considering the out-of-his-mind fit that Braden threw over it during and after the game. I'd imagine the only people that support Braden on this are his teammates and maybe his friends. Making up "rules" to get angry about something is no way to live.
Would you have the same reaction if Milton Bradley ran across the pitching mound and Joba went off on him? :D :p

Blyleven also thinks being a "stat collecter" should be in the Hall of Fame. You belong in the Hall of Very Good - not the Hall of Fame.

Ducks and waiting for the neg rep to fly. :D

You can't even spell collector, so instead of neg rep, take my pity.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

I'll say this. A-Rod making comments like talking about Braden's handful of wins is going to get him a fastball in the earhole sooner or later. He's going to say the wrong thing about the wrong person and they're going to lay him down in the batter's box at 97 MPH, and he's going to have an awful headache as a result.
Which is why baseball is stupid.

Just go punch him, is that really that difficult? But no, you throw a 97 mph pitch at his head. OOOOH you're a tough guy!

And from my point of view, I've never heard of the 'no running on the pithcers mound' rule. So if someone comes out spouting off and yelling at another player about it, I'd assume it's at least some guy who's got a reputation built up already; since it's not something you ever see. Not some wet behind the ears rookie. I could see someone like randy johnson getting away with it, or papelbon, etc. But not someone who no one's really ever heard of.

That's what I got from him mentioning his wins, not 'oh he's got 3 wins, i could've spiked him as i was walking by and he shouldn't complain'

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Someone ask Johnny Pesky. He's been around the major leagues forever...

well since according to braden, the word 'handful' was overstating his actual win total - i think arod is in the clear on this one.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

3:17 elapsed time, and the Jays and Red Sox are only in the 6th. Someone alert Joe West.

It *is* a terrible game, though. :o

Milton Bradley would've taken off his spikes and started clobbering anyone that would yell at him.

He'd also call them a racist.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

I'm a little late to the party, I haven't seen the video, but I personally would never run across the mound. I like the pitcher and his invited guests concept.

Whatever, A-Rod has always been a dick and always will be one.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

I was playing a game of MLB10:The Show, and a player hit an infield popup and when he was out made his way back to the third base dugout by jogging across the mound (the animation even took into account the change in height :p)
If it's in the Game, it's in the game! :D

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

We have a magical growing strike zone in Detroit. At least it is happening to both teams, I guess.
