Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

The entire twin cities metro area is under a flash flood warning 'til 2 a.m.

Storms are moving about as quickly as a fat person at a racetrack and are dumping a lot of rain on the area (and worst of all, are disrupting my satellite reception). :p

For once the warnings are quite accurate, I was freaked to hell while I was driving in it. I have never seen 35 and 94 as bad as they were...the standing water was insane!

I wonder if Lyndale is draining at all yet...there was so much rain the sewers were shooting out water like a geyser! It was scary!

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Had three lightning bolts hit no more than a couple hundred yards away about 45 minutes ago. Yeah, that got the heart going...
Yeah, it's always nice to see a flash of lightning and then thunder within a second of that - also called a "window rattler".
Having satellite issues here as well, which doesn't surprise me as I bet we are within 5-10 miles of each other.
They need to come up with stronger satellite signals that can get through 50,000 foot high storm clouds. :p

Handy - it's pretty hard for them to **** up on a flash flood warning. Their radar is pretty good at figuring out rainfall rates, and they know what the system can handle (i.e. not a hell of a lot). I wouldn't want to go through any underpasses at this time, that's for **** sure.

And just had another about 30 seconds ago.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

These storms are irritating. If you aren't going to get rid of the humidity, just go the hell away.

It's not even that they don't get rid of it. For the following 1-2 hours they actually make it worse.

It is hard to do, but they have. They overestimate the amount of rainfall all the time just like they do snowfall. It isnt common, but I know we have had warnings a few times this year and the rain was sparse to say the least.

Today made up for it though ;)

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Right when a cell gets past where I am, another one has bubbled up in Champlin and hits within five minutes.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Sweat included? :)
Pretty much. The rain represents the fact you're drenched. The thunder is farting / bad stomach noises.

And I'd rather have the NWS issue a flash flood warning and be wrong than to not issue one and be wrong. Flash floods kill far more people than the more heavily-publicized tornadoes / severe weather events.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Was hoping to catch the storms tonight, but it looks like it's just gonna miss Mad-town, or if they do hit, it'll be really late.
The ones that passed through here won't hit Madison since they appear to be moving ENE. However, there's some stuff going through Iowa right now that looks like it will hit Madtown.

Big storms never seem to hit Madison proper (knocks on wood). Time after time and siren after siren, a big storm will approach Madison from the WSW and break into two parts just before hitting Madison with one part skirting the city on either side. The brunt of the storms are borne by the communities SW and NE of Madison, generally. I've been here for 7 years and it's always been this way.

Good to know, since the wedding/reception I'm in are on the SE side (outdoor wedding).:)

*BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP*
*Warning... Predictable WI cheap shot coming.*

That just proves no one, not even the weather, wants to go to Madison. So steer clear, and take cover when necessary.

*Thank you, we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread*

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Severe weather/heavy rain are likely in the western part of the state this afternoon/evening. Both are possible in the twin cities during the overnight hours.

Depending on atmospheric recovery tomorrow / cloud cover, we could be dealing with a fairly widespread outbreak of ugly weather in the eastern third of the state as the cold front approaches from the west (yes, this round of storms will actually usher in drier air for a change - with highs next week possibly being in the 70s - we haven't seen that in a LONG time).

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Tornado watch has been issued for the SE/E part of the state now - a line of severe storms is about 2 hours away from impacting the west metro.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Nasty stuff here in my neck of the woods in western 320land the last half hour or so. Thought for sure I was going to lose some trees. Marble sized hail. The ground was covered. The wind started strong from the west then switched from the east and it was blowing very hard then it got very calm and the sky turned greenish gray. For a moment I thought I was going to have to take some cover. Still raining and blowing like crazy but the worst "should" be over..........For those of you in its path heads up.

Dish signal is back so now its time to watch the Twins destoy chicago.
