Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

FTR, the vast majority of tax revenue comes from the twin cities area. It's little different than the federal government allocating money largely received from the most populous states and sending significant chunks of it to sparsely populated ones.
Yep, but I don't like the city. So I say **** them.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Monday: high of 88, low 67.
Tuesday: high of 66 low of 56.

And there are rumors of 30's by end of week. Yep, change of the seasons, MN-style.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

I only pay attention to 3-4 days ahead at best. It's too far ahead for meteoroligists to predict anyway. And like they have a great track record for 3-4 days ahead to begin with.

Today in Duluth: Storms. High 84/Low 47
Tuesday: Rain. High 70/Low 36
Wednesday: Showers. High 56/Low 31
Thursday: Sunny. High 57/Low 32.

Yup.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

I heard today (granted, it was Green Bay weather) that in the northern areas it could be in the 20's at night later in the week. Finally!!!!! Hard freeze to kill the billions of mosquitos in my back yard! (just don't freeze south of the cities...corn isn't ready for a hard freeze yet)

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Looks like upper 30s for the cities proper over the next couple nights, so if we knock off 5 degrees accounting for the heat island, the outlying 'burbs certainly have a shot at the freezing mark. Doubtful that it will be cold enough to kill off the bugs, though. We need to see upper 20s for that.

Temperatures will rebound for the weekend with highs in the low to mid 70s Saturday through Monday.

put the fire out already Minnesota!
Can you smell the fire from where you live? I read an article today that showed the satellite of smoke going over Norther Wisconsin and the UP.

My dad complained about the smell in Neenah, WI. (250 miles as the crow flies from Duluth).

we've been getting it on and off for the past four days. last night the moon was blood red - too bad that part couldn't be saved for Halloween!

we could smell it here. it was pretty bad (yesterday was the first day it was noticeable). they had the roof closed at Miller Park (partly) because of the smoke. I don't really notice it today, though.

Very cool. Nature is amazing sometimes.

The fire however is largest in Minnesota History since 1918 (The Great Hinkley Fire), people are evacuating and it spread so quickly. It is spreading so quickly because of all the downed trees from a severe storm that knocked down millions of trees in 1999 in the BWCA. I remember that storm vividly because hit the cabin I was staying at in Northern MN. It then moved northwest where straight line winds destroyed so many trees.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Forrest fires suck when they burn up houses and stuff, but really, I don't look at them as a bad thing. We try to prevent and stop them now and all it does is make forrested areas that much more vulnerable to huge fires like this one. And its actually good for the ecosystem to have a fire roll through.

I see the value in trying to make it so the human presence is not the cause. But if lightning or a gassy bear start it, meh.
