Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

I see the value in trying to make it so the human presence is not the cause. But if lightning or a gassy bear start it, meh.

Smokey the Bear: Only who can prevent forest fires?

Bart: ** Presses "You" button **

Smokey: "You pressed 'you', reffering to me. That is incorrect. The correct answer is 'you'."

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

It hit 19 degrees in International Falls last night, and the radio guys were jabbering about people seeing snow somewhere, too.

It is September. Snow could start flying anytime now. I've seen September snow before, not down this far south, but up north.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

It would have been nice to wake up to an inch of snow on the ground this morning, but then I remember how stupid drivers would forget they're in Minnesota and traffic would turn into armageddon.

I don't really care about flurries, so here's the data for something a bit more measurable.

Earliest 1-inch snowfall in the twin cities was September 26, 1942; average date for first 1-inch snowfall is November 18th. At the other extreme, we've gone as late as January before seeing such a snowfall (January 21, 2005 is the latest; IIRC, that was a very balmy winter with highs in the 30s and 40s running all the way into mid-January).

Oh crap dont remind me...drivers in this state suck.

Bakunin...that winter was awesome. Made me want to bust out some chlorofloralcarbons and make another hole in the Ozone!! ;)

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

I went golfing in January, in MN that "winter". It was a horrible, horrible winter. It stayed right in that range that everything was muddy and we couldn't do a **** thing about it. It is much better if it just stays below 20, everything is cleaner and it is healthier for the livestock.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Lots of freeze-thaws tend to do that. It's too far back to remember the road situation, but I imagine it was a pothole abortion.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

That 2005 winter sucked.... I was able to get a whole 4 days on snow before my 1st snowboard races of the year... Marquette Mountain didn't open till about Dec. 15th... I got one day before I got booted from the dorms for Christmas Break... We almost had to cancel our races at Mount Ripley the week after New Years because they had TWO runs open the week before our race... The run that the race was held on was literally dirt 5 days beforehand...

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Got hit in the head by a branch on my run today. And in case youre wondering....no, it didn't knock enough sense in me to want to move.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Did you call the evil neighbor to report there was a branch down?

"Hi! AM I on the air? Really? Oh wow. Ok, i just want to report that it's starting to rain here. I'm looking out the window. My driveway's a little wet. Oh, now the wind is rustling the leaves a little bit."

My dad would listen to 830. I couldn't stand it. When his senility was kicking in he called the station. They put him on the air. I came into the house at the end of the call and then had to go back outside to laugh. A lot.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

I hate the Evil Neighbor so *ing much. That is all.

And man, today was beautiful. A little chilly on the drive home, but that's because I don't have my winter blood yet.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

I've got no beef with CCO. I enjoy them, and not in a mocking way, during severe weather. Honestly.
